Even with more than double the cases in this second wave.... with no temporary field hospitals, no converted nursing homes or hospital ships.

We still didn’t even stress the nations healthcare capacity in the vast majority of places. I’d say the curve was adequately flattened.

Move football to the spring crowd is literally illogical.

Muh player safety.

Playing 2 full football seasons in 1 year would cause so many more player injuries than covid would ever accomplish.

Correct, the move the season to spring is a smoke-screen. If you are going to cancel, then cancel and try to see if you can get a 2021 season.

Personally, while I had hoped we would play this fall, I don't think it will happen.

What would make you personally confident that would allow the 2020 season to be played?

Vaccine?

You're confusing two different things. We have plenty of vaccines for RNA viruses...polio, rabies, influenza, measles. We've never developed an mRNA vaccine though, which means injecting the mRNA directly into humans in the hopes that the mRNA will produce the proteins needed to provide immunity to the actual virus.

That would be the only option to mitigate legal exposure, but I am not sure that is going to happen anytime soon. The issue is now the legal issue. One guy gets sick and dies from this, say like what happened to that OL from the Vikings years ago with an unknown heart condition, the legal exposure for this is problematic.

The other issue is I personally do not think LSU, or any other large school is going to make it through the semester without a COVID-19 outbreak, and once they send the students home, how do you say these are student-athletes.

The comparison to pro-sports is not a valid comparison. Those players have unions to negotiate with owners their working conditions. College players don't have that ability and once you give them that right, then they are no longer student-athletes then the whole scholarship grand and aide thing is out the window. Their employees and that is not going to happen.

And while I don't want to get political, I am not ruling out the probability, even if < 10% that this is a low-grade bio-weapon being tested out by the Communist Chinese which means it might take a heck of time to get a vaccine.

So nothing other than maybe a vaccine is gonna allow CFB to ever be played again.

That’s great.

i agree with you completely - hundreds of millions of doses of 3 promising vaccines headed to the US in the next 3 months predicted to be 50% to 75% effective and people on here are so impatient, negative, and fatalistic.

No that is not what I said, I think that is the safest way to get to play this fall. I just don't think a vaccine is going to be ready by 2020. By next fall, the level of herd immunity might be high enough that you can play once infection rates go back to flat line rates. Of course, if you have a vaccine and herd immunity, then 2021 is a go.

The problem I think the SEC is going to have is if the PAC12 and Big10 cancel and issue a joint statement saying we are not playing due to COVID-19 health concerns, they are going to put the SEC in a box politically. This is jut my conjecture. IF the SEC plays, then the Governors of all these states need to all step up and say we back playing and take the political pressure off the SEC.

Do all these Governors have the willingness to expend political capital for football. The Governor of Florida for example seems willing to do so.

You look pretty exhausted fighting that straw man. Maybe you can explain to me exactly how this is the fault of Democrats. I'm all ears

we were all gaslighted and told that "flatten the curve" means "total elimination of CV19 until a vaccine is found" and the original meaning didn't happen.

That was not what happened. We rushed to reopen. Many of the public could not follow the simple recommendations about masks, etc. Few of the requirements or criteria for tracing etc were implemented. We were warned repeatedly about consequences. Ironically, most college athletic departments complied and managed the situation well.

However, you’re correct about Spring football. It won’t happen, nor should it. Even if the pandemic miraculously abated, There is no way the players can manage two seasons in one calendar year.

It’s just another coordinated tactic to make covid linger past the presidential election. The sooner we start behaving normally, the sooner everyone realizes that this overreaction to covid was pointless.

Some people are so scared I don’t see how we could convince them to take the mask off at this point. You will see people taking COVID precautions for years to come. Must suck to live in constant fear.

Why do you say this? There seem to be strong prospects of a vaccine by late fall/early winter. Assuming this happens, it seems to me that things will be materially different in February than in September

Okay Dr Gates, What study supports your statement? Earlier in the year we heard that COVID-19 has the ability to mutate. Next spring doesn't appear any safer to politicians waiting to make us beg to have life as we once knew it.

There is little guarantees that a Vaccine that was fast tracked tested will be safe or effective.

With the latest CDC report saying as high as 50% of the antibody test could be flawed who's to say that test on the vaccine aren't just as flawed and any vaccine will be as reliable as an Alabama kicker.
We already have a safe and tested medicine. Only government paid dr's and politicians claim otherwise.
With numbers of COVID-19 positive test dropping around the world, despite businesses and schools opened it looks more and more like his is a false flag event.

Sure most as I do many people have died from COVID-19, but people are totally forgetting there was both a banned on a proven FDA approved medicine and no approve medicines to threat those that became ill. Only over the counter med's and deadly respirator treatments. Imagine the death told if next flue season doctors were prohibited from writing prescriptions for flue patients.

I guarantee all the people that poo poo the idea of Hydroxychloroquine would beg on their knees to get it if they became ill.

So despite no approved treatment for COVID-19 hospitals were never near overwhelmed. If you're scared stay home, if you don't want to play football don't.

There was always a segment of people out there with disease anxiety. This thing brought out the worst in them. Scared to fricking death. You’re right, I feel sorry for them. And, I’m so thankful that I’m not that way.

This would be more damaging than playing this fall....you are really going to ask players to play two football seasons within a 4-5 months of each other...the wear and tear on there bodies wont be healed by the next football season
