Guys like Booty, Wickersham and Howard will always be viewed in a certain way historically because of the numbers but for people who watched them change their games while being the bridge between failure and resurgence in LSU football we’ll always appreciate them. Seeing players get beat down so badly then turn it around and succeed before they go is one of the most enduring things in college sports.

2000 —Nick’s First Year
We beat Tennessee and Miss State in OT in Tiger Stadium. Those two wins pretty much propelled us into the next 25 years of football. For the young ones, you just don’t understand the disappointment of the 90s. Nick brought defense and toughness back to Tiger Stadium. Both of those teams were ranked near the top 10. Both of those teams were extremely physical. Tennessee was the real deal at that time. Jacque turned Mississippi State into a physical bully to some extent at that time. Nick’s team physically beat both of them. The cherry on top was beating Alabama at home for the first time in almost 30 years.

The State game really was that wake-up call where you could see the Saban stamp on the team. To be able to just lineup and smash that particular defense in the face with how much our Oline had struggled was a huge turning point. I was at Tennessee, I nearly broke my leg jumping from the second level to get to the field. Another game where we played a style and level of football we just weren’t capable of playing previously. I’ll admit I was a Saban fan prior to him coming because I was a huge Bellicheck fan after watching SB XXV so I didn’t freak out after UAB and when I saw those two games I knew he was going to have success here. I didn’t know he’s as going to be what he turned out to be but I did think he was really good.

Jarrett Lee should be in the discussion as well. From a very inauspicious start, by 2010 he developed into a pretty decent backup who often had to come in to clean up JJ's mistakes. Look at his execution on the last drives vs Tennessee, Florida and Alabama that year, as well as during the first 8 games of 2011. And yet he remains unjustly maligned

But the teams were good and we were in the middle of our most successful era. The other 3 guys started with teams in the gutter and were the bridge that brought LSU back to success. Thats the difference IMO
