Getting 7 sacks in a season at defensive tackle is very difficult. You are mostly double teamed. I was stunned McNeese only blocked him with 1 lineman on a pass play. Stupid play design. Deuce made the offensive lineman look like he had concrete shoes.

Booger had 8 sacks his senior year. In 11 games.

He simply ran around him. Dude is faster than any human that size has a right to be. What is he gonna look like after a year of nutrition and weight training at LSU? He's only 18, and might be an All American as a freshman.

I would be curious to know how much extra that defense was on the field because of Tepper.

Lavalais had 7 sacks in 2003 as well

Glad to hear Dorsey, Spears and Booger getting props from Cubelic. He knows him some LSU Tigahs

That’s not quite a valid comparison, as the college game has become far more pass oriented in 2026 than it was in 2007, for example. This year there is a 12% increase in called pass plays over 2007, which puts a much bigger emphasis on the pass rush. And that only includes passes and sacks. It does not include QB scrambles for positive yardage.
This doesn’t take anything away from Duece’s accomplishments, but I don’t think there’s any doubt that Dorsey would have had a few more sacks had he played in 2026.

Just taking a quick look at stats of 97 (which went 9-3, including a bowl win that Tepper coached) and 98, stuff like TOP and plays the opponents ran is similar. Rushing stats (ypc allowed, TDs allowed) are pretty similar too
What jumps out is that 98's pass defense was just absolute trash. 23 passing TDs given up in 98 vs 11 in 97.
It's kinda crazy how bad 98 was, given Booger and a freshman Jarvis Green had pretty stout sack/ TFL numbers (and Arnold Miller isn't far off). Guess too much off coverage (I'm not gonna beat up on a certain whipping boy LB lol).
Looking back over the schedule, I didn't really think we were bad on defense until Tim Couch got like 50 completions.

Dude has been a terror so far.
Imagine seeing more of him in more goal line situations on offense like last night.

He was using AI to tell a story about being thankful he didn’t have to face booger because he was hurt that week?

When Lamar Brown came in, McNeese chose to double team him. Of course, Deuce easily got into the backfield with one lineman trying to block him. Interesting strategy by the Cowboys. Dude is a beast.

Duece is my favorite current Tiger. Love everything about his game and the joy with which he plays.

I wonder what percentage of these are quick hitters that are an extension of the running game which leaves no opportunity for a sack.

That’s a good point. It shows the difficulty in comparisons across eras.
