yea that was a really really good team on paper that lost too many close games.

I remember being so excited for a potential SEC title that year

I'm just going to discount the entire decade of the 90's because it was all bad except for Kevin Faulk and a few others having memorable games.

1996 and 1997 were top 15 finishes. FFS, 1996 was a 10-win season.

Particularly when one considers how expectations had been lowered by Curley - the first 3 seasons of Dinardo were fantastic. Because of this 1998 was pretty disappointing. We had a lot of talent - Booger McFarland, Kevin Faulk and Todd McClure were all drafted the next year.

I agree with you on 2008 and 2009, to a lesser degree 2014. 2016 saw a coaching change - during the season. All things considered, with LF7's injury down the stretch, and as impressive as Aranda's defense was, I can't consider it in the same light.

2004 was pretty bad - coming off a championship. Lose by 1 point to Auburn - and that 1 point was pretty expensive in the grand scheme of things. We got blown out by UGA (I guess understandably angry we'd beaten them twice the previous season), but we might have gotten them in the rematch had we beaten Auburn.

And, then to lose to a team in the bowl game we had no business losing to, to a player who had not caught a TD pass that season (or maybe ever) - a failure of the head coach's specialty - defensive backs.

1998 was rough. We were ranked like 6th going into UGA which was the 4th game of the season IIRC and we ended up 4-7.

Anyone saying any season in the 2000's is a bitch pussy. Sorry but that is the truth. If you were lucky enough to not have to endure the 90's I get it but most here are older than 17.

I'd say 1989 or 1998. Both years started highly ranked only to shite all over themselves. These were LOSING seasons. That's a reason to be disappointed, not going 9-3 when you thought it should be 11-1

Yeah, 6th after a road win at Auburn. That Georgia loss was a classic, 21-21 at half and lost 28-27 (Ryan Clark froze in end-zone just in front of student section on their 2nd half TD). Then lost on the road at Florida in game that was 6-10 at half. Then lost at the buzzer to Couch's UK at home. I was at all of those games and it went from being a NC possibility to a losing season just like that.

2016 was one of the most complete rosters we've ever had and it was a disaster season resulting in our coach being fired.

If we had hired Matt Canada before 2016 and Les let him coach the offense, we might not have lost last year. Defense was fricking unreal.

I agree in principle. I didn't state the obvious other reason we might have been disappointed at the end of 2004. I'm not a Sabanista after all.

I agree as well. Wasn't calling you out Ace, more for the 2011 was so disappointing crowd. I mean REALLY lol.

I would also say 2002 was more of a "letdown" for me than 2004. I was just so happy after 2003 it didn't matter lol

1998

After the horrible years under Archer (at the end) and Hallman, it looked like Dinardo had brought LSU back to prominence with 3 straight winning seasons. In '97 LSU beat Florida, crushed Bama, and if not for the bad performance against ND on a cold wet day in Tiger Stadium, would have finished in the top 10.

In 1998 everyone was coming back. Herb Tyler, Kevin Faulk, Mealey, Foster, Abraham Booty, etc. They also had a pretty good recruiting class going into that season. Josh Booty (who was on par with Peyton Manning when they were being recruited) joined the team.

LSU started ranked 7th (the highest in a decade). They were the favorite to win the SEC West. Then they lost a great game vs. UGA (Quincy Carter). Another close one to Kentucky, Ole Miss, Alabama, Notre Dame (I was there). Lou Tepper's defense absolutely sunk what should have been a very good team. That season crumbled everything that was built in the previous 3. Dinardo refused to fix his glaring mistake (Tepper) and payed for it the next season by losing his job.

it was a close, back and forth game actually. 38-31 i think?

we didnt really get blown out a ton in 1998, just lost a lot of close games. Even Florida only beat us by a few scores.

Arky last game of the year i think beat us pretty good as did ND (wasnt think the game we had to have Faulk playing QB?) but i think that was it.

i'm just going off memory though so i may be wrong.

When you look at the combined talent of 2013 & 2016, those are tough pills to sallow.

2015 also sucks because the way the season started, after the Florida game I was sure we'd at least go to a New Years 6

2009-Still waiting for Russell Shepard to be the next Percy Harvin

everyone knows I'm not a Miles fan, but I'll defend him on this.

He tried virtually everything with Shepard to get him involved, but Shepard had stone hands, ran bad routes, had little wiggle, and fumbled. It just didn't work.

It's very surprising to me (pleasantly) that Shep has caught on in the NFL, and signed a 3-year, $10 million contract this off-season. I never would've guessed that would happen, but good for him.

When you look at the combined talent of 2013

The offensive firepower was there, but the defense suffered some major loses from the prior year. No Mingo. No Montgomery. No Logan. No Reid. No Minter. The DL suffered a HUGE drop-off, which isn't a good thing when you have road games AT UGA and Bama.

2015 was "fools gold" and you could see Nov. looming. Except for Florida, every team LSU played leading up to the Bama game was weak. They even got gifted an extra home game when USCe had to come here.
