The UNO team that LSU beat by 30 blasted Tulane by 20+. UNO also beat TCU on the road to start the season. Don’t let the name fool you. UNO was a good win.
The UCF team that the Tigers beat on the road in a scrimmage beat Texas A&M at their place by 12.
We may have a decent team this year.

We are a basket ball school again.

Ah the good ole transitive property. You may be right in that the team is much improved. I just think it’s too early to tell. Last year we were feeling great after the Kansas State game.

Ill still hold out judgement until January in SEC play.

I think that is obvious.

It's not too early to tell they have improved; it is too early to tell just how much and how sustainable that improvement is.

There was a notable difference in how the team played before and after the Reed injury. The team was structured around Reed. It appears that this year, the player who may make or break this team is Dedan Thomas. As long as he stays healthy, I feel confident that this team will at least be competitive.

UCF counts for nothing season wise, but was a good exhibition win and as someone who watched the whole game - both teams were playing to win. They are #68 Kenpom.
quote:As also someone that hates the dreaded "eye-test" criteria, my "eye-test" thinks we have looked a lot better this early than in previous seasons. I think CoachMc, as he's said, tried to design a team with a PG - Athleticism Inside - and Wings that can hit perimeter shots. I like the makeup there. Also, metrics back up it up thus far, LSU is #39 Kenpom - we haven't been this high, this early, since Will Wade was coach. I'm not 100% sure, but this could be CoachMc's highest Kenpom rating while at LSU entirely.
We may have a decent team this year.
TLDR:

DJ holds the keys to the team. We have lots of capable moving parts around him, almost too many in some ways (I know that sounds counterintuitive). But he's the driver.

And 5 minute scoring droughts are still a thing

Started the season scoring 96, 93 and 98……but sure

If you watch much basketball, you know that's a thing for virtually every team, certainly every team outside of the top 10-15. Which no one is accusing LSU of being

Reliance on KP is still too early now because there just isn’t enough data quite yet. It will start to become more reliable with another 4-5 games overall. There’s also still preseason bias baked in.
That said, LSU has been moving up from its preseason spot. In large part because of the offense. A few less TOs vs FIU and the offense would be in the top 30-35. I’m pretty confident none of MM’s teams have ever been that high at any point in his LSU tenure.
Short of more 25+ point wins, the next two games won’t show much. It’s the 5 after that where we will start to get a much better look

Texas Tech and SMU will be great tests for SEC play.

I was just using as reference for the masses.

We will know what kind of win UNO is by Christmas.
They will play Miss St, Memphis, Texas Tech, and Houston before then. If they can steal 1 of those and then run through the Southland with 1-2 losses, then potentially looking at a Q2 team. But likely Q3, and that is if everything goes right within the Southland, which is a poor conference.

That's two potential Quad 1 wins in December.
