Mondo is a good pole vaulter. That doesn’t make him the best athlete by any measure. There are other sports that require a great deal more strength, endurance and skill. So, he excels in a niche sport while competing for a foreign country. How does that make him LSU’s best athlete.
I would suggest that if you considered what “athlete” meant and what other sports demand of their competitors in coordination, strength/power and talent you wouldn’t be suggesting some Swedish guy was the “best athlete “. Sorry but not even close.

If they did, how did Mondo break one?

The world record he broke had been in place for a whole....six years

Sweden gave him a career (financially). USA did not. Easy decision.

You are an ethnocentric idiot.

America gave him everything?
Yeah like old what’s his name, and that other track and field star who’s a national celebrity. You know, old whosamacallit!!

The US buries it’s track stars for 4 years then takes them out of mothballs to perform like circus animals in the Olympics. If they’re lucky, they get a few moments in the sun.

Mondo is a European Sports God. Appreciated, reverered and rewarded for his mind-boggling longevity and unprecedented athleticism.

Check your LSU history knowledge for 4 names. Steve Van Buren, Bob Petit, Doc Fenton and Alvin Dark. Not saying they were the greatest but they made their presence known when LSU was widely overlooked.
Throw in YA Tittle and Jim Taylor.

That’s 14 world records. Not LSU records. Not NCAA records. World records.

Keep in mind these world records he is breaking are his.

And he’s breaking them because every time he does he gets a massive payout. He could have broken it once at like 6.5 or something and never broken it again, but he’s not even trying his best at this point.

So the numbers are skewed a bit.
