Would be fun to compare this thread to the thread when Landon Collin’s committed to play for Alabama instead of lsu
Massive discrepancies
“Mondo is a traitor for not choosing USA “. 400 downvotes
“Collins has the right to choose bama if it’s what’s best for him” 400 downvotes
We really are growing up guys

You think the world’s greatest pole vaulter ever is scared of competition
He himself said the easy path of qualifying for Sweden played a large role.
So you have two choices.
He was scared of messing up and missing the Olympics.
OR
He was so entitled he thought he should be given a spot and that his competitors did not deserve a shot to beat him out for it.

Or it’s a work smarter not harder thi g when it comes to qualifying

"What I would be interested in seeing is a venn diagram"
You must be easily entertained. Do you want to throw a set of "mouthbreathers" into your diagram also?

Being lazy kinda goes against the ethos of this country and the Olympics.

And he doesn't have to go through the qualification trials like he would if he competed for the US.
Oh no, merit based.

Good on that TIger! "Sounded like Death Valley"! Happy for him. I don't begrudge him jumping for his Mom's country and the reason he chose to. Way to go kid. And if you haven't seen it the Born to Fly documentary about his path to this is excellent.

He had a nice interview after. Said the place was rocking like death value. Reminded him of being at LSU and got him pumped up. Nice advertisement for LSU on TV.

OP has a ruined orgasm after hearing Mondo repping LSU on National TV

What if an LSU athlete left LSU for more NIL money at another school?
That situation is completely different than then one it’s being compared to.

I am glad an ex LSU athlete won a gold medal.
However, I would rather the US athlete won and Mondo placed second.
I would also hope that anyone would choose the US over any other country.
That's my opinion.
Downvotes can start now.

Who paid for his training? I'm sure it's his parents.
I'm sure coaching for every sport is through the roof. I can speak for archery - it's ~4k for equipment. Every arrow is about $70. Coaching is $150 per hour. Training costs are $1500 per month. Travel for tournaments is about $20,000 per year. If you want to be trained by the best coaches in Korea, it's $5,000 per month. Archery is a sport that doesn't translate well as a profession. Same could be said for Pole Vault here.
Unless the government takes the tab for training like China or South Korea (mass production of athletes), I don't see an issue with taking the skills to a place with a better ROI. I've zero issues with Mondo living his life by choosing a country that he wants to represent.

frick Landon Collins. He's a loser with no accomplishments. Mondo has broken all of Landon Collins families accomplishments in one night

I disagree. I think they're a great family, and their sons' athletic prowess has raised our sports profile in good way.
Antoine was a great Tiger, Mondo had to go to a Euro club team or whatever to make money. Not a lot of money-making pole vaulting leagues in the US I wouldn't think.
