You could make the argument that Sweden respects its pole vaulters more than the US.

Time article I read on him said they worship the dude. Billboards all over of him, tons of sponsors, gets mobbed in public. This was even before the Olympics. That would never happen in the US even after the Olympics. Dude would just be another guy on the street to most people here.

The dude was born and raised in the US, could barely speak Swedish, was scared to compete in the US Olympic trials because he might fail and got his dad to guarantee him a spot on the Swedish team.

Those are the facts.

Simps talk about how he makes more money as a Swede but that’s just false.

The largest global sports company is Nike and has a track and field background. They’d market him here if he didn’t tuck and run.

People know us gymnasts, us sprinters, swimmers etc etc. Olympic hero’s are household names.

Yeah, how dare an LSU board celebrate someone from LSU?

What if an LSU athlete left LSU for more NIL money at another school? Would this place still pull for him since he was from LSU and only doing it for the money and glory?

Noah lyles has less gold medals than Armand duplantis.

He has hundreds of thousands more social media followers than Armand.

That will have endorsement dollars to follow.

But muh track and field are paupers in the US.

With his extreme success Mondo would have more notoriety, fame, and sponsorships in America

That isn’t the reason he chose Sweden nor has he ever said it’s the reason

You would have made the same damn decision as him if you were in his shoes. Our T&F athletes have to work side jobs to make rent (unless they’ve already won multiple golds and have some big sponsorship), hoping to medal in the Olympics so someone will want to maybe give them a payday.

In a place like Sweden, he was able to start making real pro athlete money.

Your take is ignorant.

Pennies on the dollar and wouldn't allow his dad to coach.

Seems pretty damn stupid right now.

Ryan Crouser won back-to-back-to-back gold medals in shot put. He has no real notoriety or fame. I'm not suggesting he's poor or anything, but he could walk just about anywhere in the US in one week and no one would know who he is.
