I'm no math wizard, so this could be wrong.

Minus the 45 second rest between sprints-

They are running about 1.62 miles and the linemen have to do this in 8 min 15 sec.

Jogging 1 mile in 8 minutes seems tough for a 300 lb person.

By sprint #3, that 45 second rest is going to seem like a cruel joke.

Can you define this term? I assume it refers to positions such as TE and FB, but what other positions does it include? Linebackers? Just curious.

If they dont have it down by the end of Spring & Summer workouts they will have to do it again during the Fall on the days they are not lifting weights. Going to be ready of overtime!!

Moffitt said:

Skill players 15
middle players 17
lineman(big guys) 19

everyone gets a 45sec rest

You are correct. Skill guys are DBs, WRs, and RBs. Mid Skill are LBs, QBs, TEs, FBs, and Ks. Big Skill is obviously OL and DL.
The thing that sucks about it is that the first day of summer workouts you have to run 26, which is the most all offseason, and if I remember correctly the test before Fall camp starts is only 16 110s. The rest time also gets progressively shorter as the summer goes along. The first few are a breeze, but somewhere between 15 and 20 is when you would just rather be dead.

I remember having to do 16 200m at 30 seconds with a 30 second rest after running a 5 mile time trial in 29:24.
could that have been in or about 1990?

Oh yes, I remember my days as a top wrestler having to run a long time and then do sprints up the river levee at the end of that, which was the start of each practice. Hated it. And this was often done in a T-shirt and shorts at the start of practice, which began in the cold near the beginning of winter.

Still, I think full contact is the best conditioning method. You not only learn (to the extent possible) how to get past fatigue, but also you hone your technique. But who am I to contradict Tommy Moffitt? Nobody.

Nah, LSUtoOmaha was doing that in 2006 or 7. I know because I was on the team with him. He's slightly exaggerating though. He was doing the 200s at 31-32 but only taking a 28-29 second rest. Still hard as frick.

Its tough to do full contact conditioning when you're not even allowed to wear pads. Also, your theory is stupid. You can push a guy to his limits during sprints. Push someone to his limits during full contact conditioning and someone is going to get hurt very bad. But what do you know, you're just a meat head wrestler

I did this when I play at NSU. 16, 110s. we had a minute between runs and it still sucked, but after that there were no more sprints during the season.

Cheerleaders suffer more injuries than any other group of college athletes. This is a good reason to increase (reintroduce) the number of college football scholarships and bench players. If a fan base cannot support a team, then that team and that team only should suffer the consequences. LSU and other teams with major fan bases should be allowed to compete in their own division. If you want to run with big boys, you must pay the price, a feisty and talented fan base.

Of course injuries should be minimized with rule changes and scheduling, but that is a whole other topic.

I'd like to know what the LSU program has been requiring its player to run for conditioning tests the last few years.

Me too Doc. I assume Moffitt, from what I have read over the years, is a taskmaster. He used to match his students but finally had to give it up. So I have full trust in his methods. Other teams have tried to lure him away, but LSU has wisely trumped the offers one way or the other.

This statement is somewhat incorrect. Cheerleaders do suffer more "serious" injuries including spinal cord injuries and head injuries, but football players suffer more ankle sprains, ACL tears, etc. Also, it's not the college cheerleaders that suffer the frequent bad injuries, it's the high school ones. College cheerleaders are more skilled and they usually have guy cheerleaders catching them for the tosses. High school cheerleaders aren't nearly as skilled and it's usually girls catching girls i.e. way more risk. Just adding a little clarity to your statement.
