That's why you can't shite on the kid for taking the money.

He would've been good depth/maybe start in football but it seems like baseball is his first love.

This kind of proves that.

Hampton has quit school.

I don’t think I’ve read this anywhere. The latest story at the Advocate says “if Hampton indeed leaves campus” as if it’s not a done deal.

Also from that article:
quote:

Hampton was establishing himself as one of LSU's starting outfielders before an injury setback in the 2020 season. He hurt his back against Texas in the 10th game of the year, and he tried playing through the injury the next day against Baylor. Mainieri then said he'd be "out for quite awhile" with a stress reaction in his back.
I forgot about this completely. He was hitting really well before that Texas game too. It’s after this that his average dropped to 0.231.

. Best of luck to him in the future, it’s a bright one and I look forward to him playing on either Sundays or in the MLB.
Yet nothing done here, in two sports under two DCs, has indicated he will be playing in the NFL or MLB.

PM told him point blank he wasn't going to be given an opportunity. So quitter, I don't think so. He was forced out

Did you consider our historically bad DC maybe should have had him out there?

I mean Pelini was garbage, but to be fair MH did play and he was REALLY bad when he did.

I wonder how good he could have been without covid and the back injury. He was batting 0.291 in 6 starts prior to the Texas game where he hurt his back. That was as a freshman.

Been wondering when you’d show up. PM told the media that he was caught off guard and that he told Mo she focusing on baseball was a bad idea. That true?

He didn't make the trip to UNO last night. This must have been in the works for a bit.

I edited Russian. A while ago.

At 5:03 I edited to add: “ETA: I misread Jaqcues' Tweet. I was at UNO.”

I meant to say He was at UNO.

Actually I really like him and was hoping he’d work his way into a role with the baseball team but I don’t watch practice.

Wow. Thanks Paul. Dude was taking a huge risk to skip spring football under a new DC and CPM wouldn't even give him a chance

I think we're really understating how hard it is for a kid to play 2 sports in college, much less at the SEC level and starter snaps/innings. Yes, I know exceptions do exist but they're rare.

Personally, I think he could've played either at this level if he had devoted all of his time to one. Unfortunately, he could not and did not want to do that. I think the coaches also probably leaned towards guys that put all of the time in if the competition was even close.

He did want to as of December according to PM who told him focusing only on baseball was a bad idea.

He was way behind. It would've taken some time to close the gap with the competition and gain rapport with his teammates/coaches. I do agree that his limited opportunities probably limited his chance to close the gap quicker. Had PM given him more opportunities, he might've been able to catch up quicker...but maybe not.

Then this could just boil down to a scholarship numbers thing. Baseball didn’t have 100% to give him, so in that regard Mainieri is correct, it’s a bad idea.
