That seems to be a popular saying lately. How about explain what you are referencing? What part of the draft do people not understand?

Are you referencing the idea that players typically agree to numbers before teams draft them during these first two days?

Or are you referencing that teams can still take fliers on guys late and meet their number given how much money is leftover? Could you be more specific instead of the standard some people have no idea how it works.

Yes. They call the player and say “hey we want to draft you. Will you sign for $X?”

If the player says yes they draft them. If they say no they move down their list.

If a team fails to sign a draft pick in the first 10 rounds then that picks draft value is not available to be used on other picks. So they make damn sure they’re going to sign before they draft him.

Who the frick downvotes this?

Because they
* know more than the scouts
* know more than the coach
* would never make a coaching error (sending runners, pulling pitchers, etc. etc.)
* all this and never made it passed T-Ball

Would be really smart for them to come back. I mean Herring's gonna top out on signing bonus at 300k and then 19k a year in the minors. If he doesn't come back to increase his draft stock he's a damn fool.

It is almost a certainty that they paid over slot for herring

Schmidt will take Herrings place in rotation. Herring def short changed himself. He bet on himself to being successful . Good luck to the kid

Looks like Tennessee is loosing a lot to this draft:
So far: 1B, 2B, 3B, 3 Pitchers, 2 outfielders.

More than likely they did not. At least not a significant amount

Why would you assume that lol?

Because he’s a draft eligible sophomore. He’s got two more cracks at this thing if he wants it. He’d be silly to accept anything slot and under.

I believe there been at least 2 shortstops as well. I think one was a transfer and one was a HS recruit

The Yankees will have slot savings by taking all college guys. Maybe he gets a little boost but I’d expect them to throw some darts on the back end of the draft

And I’m pretty sure their starting catcher is out of eligibility as well. He couldn’t throw anyone out that was stealing 2nd if his life depended on it but he has the king of back pickin dudes at 1st. Doubt he gets drafted but who knows.

Hopefully Tony V has a season of pain ahead of him!

Went look at their board this morning to see if they were melting, but they seem to be confident after they got a few HS guys to pull their name.

BUT I had that same blind faith after the '23 Championship, even with our mass exodus

They got their best incoming pitchers to pull their name.

They had 4 high school shortstops rated between 100 and 200 on the BA500 and expected to lose 3 of them. So far they've only lost 2.

They didn't lose anyone of importance to the portal and have managed the draft very well. They have no reason to melt.
