So, for the Miles defenders, ask yourself a question, and try to answer it truthfully. Which group would you put Miles in?

Mack Brown: Miles will never, ever shite the bed in any given season the way Mack Brown has in several. And Mack Brown presides over the recruiting mecca of the known world.

Mark Richt: A fair comparison, but Miles has a MNC and another Runner-up appearance. Richt pretty routinely loses three. Miles has done that three times in nine years...twice during the season.

Will Muscamp: GTFO. That's like comparing most of us to our daddies.

Bob Stoops: Probably the fairest comparison. But considering the number of top 10 picks Stoops has lost with, and the number of big games he's blown, I'd still take Miles (and his winning record vs. Stoops).

Jimbo: Again, show me the results at the end of a season. When Fisher gets some hardware, we'll talk.

Miles is no Saban or Meyer, and probably not a Kelly. I'll give you that.

David Shaw - Actually might be the best candidate, but would he make it in SEC football? Can he get dirty enough?

Kevin Sumlin - Why leave A&M? Expanding stadium, LOTS of money, recruiting Texas. Fans that actually stay at the game ( )

Chris Peterson - Has no clue about big time football. Had a couple of great years. Nope

Kirby Smart - Maybe.

Charlie Strong - Maybe.

Gary Patterson - Thrived in the MW, struggling in a higher level conference.

James Franklin - Interesting ....

Saban/Meyer obviously - People, Saban ain't comin.
Meyer? no thanks, don't want to be on probation in 2 years. I see and read about his legacy every day here in FL.

Cam Cameron - Only in it for his buddy Les.

There are some GREAT coaches currently not coaching that could be available if the money is right.

Saban is the only coach to reach the title game twice by way of a team not winning it's conference. Once when Oklahoma did it and once when his own team got a second chance

Chip Kelly as soon as he realizes he is not a NFL coach ,I would take him as the next LSU coach if Miles decides to hang it up ! Could you imagine that offense in the SEC ,because that is where all the SEC teams offense is going

Just out of curiosity, what is Miles record against these coaches?

I assume it is well below .500.

So, are you happy with being good, but falling short year after year like UT, UGA, UF, OK and LSU have done with their current coaches?

If we have fallen short every year, then so has every team in the country the last 9 years besides Florida and Alabama. But then again, you listed Florida as not living up to their standards, so I guess this is just a "I wish we were Bama" thread.

Chip Kelly

Agree, I don't hink his offense will survive in NFL. Too much stress on the QB at that level. Not sure his style works in the SEC. Traditional styled teams have giving Oregon trouble (Stanford, LSU).

I can dig it but as f*ed as Kiffin is, he'd be an improvement over Less for at least a couple seasons.

sometimes wonder if Lane Kiffin, if given a real program, and not shite-holes like UT and USC (at the time), he wouldn't do better at LSU.

Holy shite that entire list of coaches has lost to inferior talent. Most just THIS YEAR. What has Shaw and Sumlin ever won? Just off the too of the list?

WTF do you people want?

Neither of those teams have the natural advantages of LSU. They are good when they have elite coaches, but they should never outperform LSU, UF, UT, UGA, etc.

I'm basing that off the vibe off the board. So, if Miles is so terrible, I can only assume that's his record

Understand your point, but right now in college football, there is only 1 elite coach and he is on the sidelines in Tuscaloosa.

Urban Meyer has done very well as a coach when he had a supreme collegiate athlete like Tebow and Braxton Miller. When he doesn't have those special typ QBs, he's a 8-4, 9-3 coach. Lastly, Fisher isn't remotely close to being an elite coach. He's had the most talent of the ACC teams since he's been the headcoach and is 31-10 through his first 3 full years, again 10-3 team, not elite.

Th reality is every good coach is going to have up years and down years and in the SEC schedule makes a huge difference. If we could play Kentucky and Tennessee as our only East teams we are going to look really strong. Look at 2012. Ignoring the OOC schedule, we got Florida on a down year and Kentucky from the East and what do you know? Undefeated season.

As a collegiate program, you have to look at trend analysis to see where your program stacks up nationally. LSU is staying at the elite level of CFB programs with Miles at the helm and have done so consistently, which is extremely hard to do. He deserves credit for that.

Right now (in my opinion):

Elite: Saban
2nd Teir: Meyer, Miles, Kelly(when he was at Oregon)
3rd Tier: Stoops, Fisher, Shaw, Richt
