It IS over ... assuming we want half a chance at there being a Mike VII, VIII, IX, etc.

That's what I thought, but I was just curious. Is this something that's considered grossly inhumane?

its a bad look who knows if it is actually inhumane

I hope we can give this Mike some quality years, and then we go full bore zoo level Mike care. If that means having 2 and a sustainability plan lets do it

I don't donate very much, but with this meaning my newborn could grow up seeing Mike in his cage at every game like I did, I would definitely donate to this cause.

I mean LSU can easily find another tiger. They aren't hard to come by. Look at all the private owners in Texas.

Finding one in an ethical and donated manner will be more difficult, but we wouldn't need to be "lucky" either, despite the PETA article.

That ain't treatment. That's eye black!
Mike is getting ready to wreck some fools this football season!!

ETA: The field painting crew should add a little eye black to the tiger eye at the 50yard line!!

I'm actually waiting for the Wildcat Sanctuary to respond to my questions about who is their affiliated Vet school, do they have two Vet students assigned per cat, and do they a have a $3-million habitat per cat....look at their post on the Mike VI facebook page

but you're absolutely correct, what a bunch of maroons...

when I go to the Mike VI facebook page, it's the first public post...

quote:

The more we educate, the more we shine the light on how wrong using wild animals as mascots truly is. Before anyone comments how well Mike is treated, please understand the bigger picture is the example this sets. Lilly, the cub featured here bit.ly/LillyTigerMascot wouldn't suffer the fate she does if not for a high school trying to copy LSU's tradition. Nearly 50 tigers have died or suffered at that ONE high school because of this tradition. And, for the vet to say Great Cats of Indiana was a good place is unthinkable. We've all seen the YEARS of abuse that has to take place before the USDA shuts a place down - and this place was shut down! No accredited sanctuary would ever supply a tiger cub to be bred or used this way. It's unethical and against accreditation standards.

Oh, so before we bring logical discussion and what actually matters to this conversation, let's start of with a fallacy

You could use their same illogical argument against any tigers being kept in captivity, including at their facility.

Their website says breeding is out of control in the US... Where would they have those tigers go? What better facilities?

By the same argument, LSUs world class facility and Mike's world class care are, by the same stupid logic, examples of how captive tigers should be treated. Therefore, LSU deserves the credit for all captive tigers treated properly.

I was thinking about sending an email, but it likely isn't worth my very invaluable time.

I wish you were right. I know someone that's in LSU vet school and they said what he has is very bad. I don't know the specifics, but they are doing the best they can for him and it's only going to buy a little time unfortunately.

I highly doubt a live Tiger will ever go in TS for a game again. LSU will be lucky if they can even source the next one.
Im not so sure we won't see mike at games again. It all will depend on who the next mike is. The previos one seemed to have no problem going to games. But as far as lucky to get a new tiger, bullshite. If LSU wants to get another tiger they will. Nothing to do with luck. If they don't, they'll put out some bs excuse like that as to why they aren't getting one.
