I have a cat that underwent rediation treatment. He lost his fur in the treated area and it came back in silver. The treatment worked. He has been five years cancer free.

Screw PETA. Those goofy morons literally believe that it's inhumane to keep a pet.

They are delusional idiots who should be ignored.

the best way to handle them is to smack them down hard...

don't know if you ever heard about the youngster in the Slidell area who was going to UK on some sort of youth ambassador program a few years back, someone donated a cow for him to auction off to raise money...

PETA got wind of it and basically sent this under 15 year old (at the time) nudes of their furless girls...the parents lawyered up and apparently got them to cease and desist by threatening them with distributing pornography to minors!!!!!

Should have pressed charges anyway. Sounds like those chicks could have been the main course at State pen taco buffet.

We should have gotten a female Tiger for Mike. Having a regular companion would have contributed to his happiness and might have prevented the cancer and relaxed Mike enough to attend football games.

It would be great to have baby tigers and a true blood line from Mike!

So sad right now.

Damn.

You folks need to read up on tigers and maybe this "Mike and Michelle" bullshite will stop.

For the hundredth time, tigers are SOLITARY animals. They mate, then go their way. Tigers are also very territorial. Mike has had that habitat all to himself most of his life. You put a female tiger in there, it would be a fight to the death.

You can't project human characteristics on a wild animal.

do they even try and bring him to football games this season? This isn't a complaint, I want the vets and trainers to do whatever they think is in the best health of the tiger. He was already pretty off and on about it but now with health issues I wonder if they'll even try.

Please tell me you're joking...

There are plenty of captive tigers that co exist in habitats, including sanctuaries.

Now for this Mike, agreed

I wasn't saying they should. If I had to pick which one I'd think they would do I'd have gone on the side of no they don't try. But I just wanted to see what y'all thought.

Yes, I understand they live together in zoos and sanctuaries, usually from birth. It's contrary to their nature.

Mike living in solitary splendor helps the perception that he is treated well, which is, of course, true. Load up multiple tigers in there and the perception is, it's just another zoo exhibit, making it more difficult to keep the tradition going after Mike VI passes on.

San Diego is a standard for zoos/exhibits, and that is exactly what Mike's habitat is, am exhibit viewed by thousands. Zoos would have zero problems getting another tiger.

Furthermore, the sanctuaries that are not zoos keep big cats together too despite their solitary lifestyles in the wild.

People like peta members have issues with tigers in captivity for exhibit purposes period. It wouldn't hinder perception at all as long as LSU could provide quality care for another tiger.

And I'm not saying I'm for it. just saying that the premier zoos in the country have multiple tigers together in their exhibits.

I'm very familiar with the San Diego zoo's tiger exhibit.

And let's accept your premise, for the sake of argument, that it is more than "just another zoo exhibit."

It's 5.2 acres, almost 230,000 square feet. Mike's habitat is 15K sq ft., barely one-third of an acre.

Everything I post is with the aim of LSU continuing the tradition of a live tiger mascot. That includes recognizing perception.

If you want multiple tigers on campus, I'd suggest you start a fund drive for a helluva lot bigger habitat. With the care Mike gets, his digs are palatial for a solitary cat. You'd have a hard time justifying it for multiple cats, even if you put them in as cubs, where they didn't kill each other.

That was your premise. My premise was that Mike's habitat is absolutely an exhibit and saying otherwise is laughably dishonest and silly.

That wasn't actually the point at all. But okay

How about the Audubon Zoo tiger exhibit.
