I thought everyone was in agreement that this was gonna be Kelly’s offense regardless.

He'll jump into the playcalling occasionally but leaves it up to OC most of the time. However, it is his offense and he has a heavy hand in the gameplanning. He constantly talks to the OC during the game about what he's seeing and what direction the offense should go mid-game.
Read this about his time at Notre Dame, assuming it'll be the same here. I see it like a Saban DC, but not that elite. It is what it is.

He's involved in Offensive Game planning

Sounds like another Brady/Ensminger scenario.
This.
Just because he wasn't Co-OC doesnt mean he never had input on plays being called, much like Brady. Dont see what the issue is really.

Denbrock is a mediocre hire. Same for House. Don’t let the sunshine pumpers fool you.

Not saying you are wrong but what are you basing this opinion off of? Who do you think he should have hired?

It just feels like a comfort hire. Is Denbrock some hidden gem? I mean the dude is damn near 60. I’ve never heard of anyone else even considering hiring him. I’m sure he’ll do fine but didn’t I hear Kelly say about 100 times that he came here bc he could get the best players & the best coaches?
As for House. He’s been in charge of some abysmal defenses. “But the talent at LSU” At his other stops he had comparable talent to who he played against. No excuse for finishing near the bottom in your league on defense. Had one good year at Kentucky where he had a co-DC & his boss knew a thing or 2 about defense. And he parlayed that into….a position coach gig.
Honestly I think the position coaches are much better hires. Good mix of young & hungry guys with legitimate recruiting bonafides.

I'm on record. This was the worst hire Kelly made.
worst hire is a little harsh. While I dont feel it was a bad hire. It was definitely what I would call a lazy/safe one. I sure he was given the ok to go out and get whoever he wanted. I feel he could have gotten a more innovative younger mind.

Badger had tremendous things to say about him and word was UK wanted him back if they had lost their DC.

House absolutely had a ton of input in kc from what I’ve read. That defense went from shite to great this year a little less than halfway through the year .
Ask Kentucky fans about him, they’ve all said that he’s better than the current dc . Honey badger loves lsu and wouldnt just make up shite , he said that house is a great coach.
House is the best hire imo I guess you could say frank Wilson is a great hire but as far as the hires made for on the field performance more so than recruiting, he was the best. Just my opinion

Kelly fired him before, it’s stupid to hire him again. A good ole boy hire

More like Luke Fickle amirite?!

If he was calling the plays, it was stupid for Fickel to keep Denbrock.

I believe Denbock was best man at Kelly's wedding.
True story.
True story.

Aka how can I justify promoting the QB coach to OC of a CFB playoff semifinals team and not catch shite from fans.

Brian Kelly deserves the benefit of the doubt for his hires, just like O did…the results will tell you how good the hires are.

I think people aren't realizing that Kelly could've hired Sean Payton and the offense would still be Kelly's. Denbrock just knows how Kelly operates and is a solid recruiter. It'll be a lot more seamless with them together again.
Not ecstatic about it either, but I just don't think it was the most important hire for Kelly
Where I'm hoping a Brady like effect will be made is the influence of Sloan. Tech used some more wide open principles and I think incorporating some of them into Kelly/Dembrock scheme can allow them the flexibility to adapt to the different SEC defenses they'll see.
