He needs coaching to be a priority...
that's what I do not see happening.

By himself, he can only improve so much.

I know. Its pissing me off. He has been pretty sound this year. It all starts with the line. The games that they have given him time, he has came through

Either Mett is not as talented as all the hype, or he didn't work hard enough this year.

yes and yes.

quote:

"I deserve"? Shades of JJ? I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he meant "our team deserves."

don't go too far.

quote:

I'm really trying to be sold on Mett, but honestly, even with the horrible line protection, he looks worse than most every QB I saw play over the holidays in the bowl games.

he has much to work on. even with limited mobility he could avoid many sacks by awareness and footwork.

quote:

I don't expect him to be Johnny Heisman, but neither should he be Hermann Munster.

he and Munster probably share the same mobility.

quote:

He is not a scrambler. You cant honestly tell me that the o-line didnt suck balls. A pocket passer has to have time to at least look down the field. Clemson's d-line had the best game of their season against our o-line

once again, while the O line was a mixed bag this season, his pocket awareness and "sense pressure" instinct needs work.

If they are being coached up then they must be being lazy because they looked awful Monday night

I definitely didn't play how I really wanted to all year and I can promise to everybody out there no one's going to worker harder than I am on this team to try to put this behind me and go out and have a great senior year like I deserve,"

I see nothing worrisome in that quote at all. It's standard, "I'm going to work to get better for next year" kind of stuff.

I don't dispute that. He definitely needs to have more awareness. I do believe if we give him adequate protection he could really shine though.

ZM needs to work on his touch - espcecially on the deep passes (this is obvious). I think he has the arm to make any throw and this causes him to try and make every throw perfect - on the deep passes he needs to put more air under his throws and give our WRs a chance to use their speed (which considerig how smallish most if them are its their best attribute) to run under it or at least fight for the ball.

I will say he made a couple of throws Monday night that were the best passes I've seen an LSU QB throw in years - the out route on 2nd down to Landry in the first half was as good as any college or pro QB can throw it.

This and our coaching staff apparently cannot develop a QB. I've never seen a group suck the talent out of a QB like this crew does.

When I watch ZM, especially when pressured, it becomes obvious that he is not a physically strong QB. The poor blocking upfront combined with missed blocks by backs put him in a lot of disadvantaged situations in that game, but the dude has no lower body strength to speak of, he is way too easy to put on the ground and that is not due to slow footspeed. There is something to be said for continuity of players in the backfield in relation to become better and more consistent pass blockers which seems stunted due to the constant rotation of RBs and Copeland being in and out of drives as well. I can't point to a single back as being an above average pass blocker, and most miss key blocks with regularity.

Just goes to show you that he is coached to think a successful deep ball is overthrowing the wide open WR by 10 yards. Jarrett Lee's 2008 season is still making Miles ruin our offense.

Y'all got to give Mett some credit for standing in the pocket and delivering the ball. He got rocked a couple times in the Bama game but still got the ball to the WR.

I think the most disappointing part of Mett's game is the consistent overthrowing of deep routes. Last year, recievers had to slow down for Lee's deep ball, but at least they(ok mostly Randle) had a shot at it and caught it more often than not.

Cmon dude, all players say this after a bad loss. It doesnt imply that he slacked off and now he'll put the work in.

Was that "the one" bad throw?

Honestly, he really didnt have a bad game. He missed on the deep ball, which just happens. All Qb's miss those throws. Mett is not the problem. He has progressively gotten better despite a terrible offensive scheme.

you're looking way too much into what a QB would normally say after a loss at the end of a season.

Yeah absolutely agree. Try not to pick apart every single word and micro-analyze that statement. The big takeaway for me is that he feels like he underachieved this year and plans to works his arse off in the off-season and that's exactly what I wanted to hear. All the rest is irrelevant.

Also, regarding the overthrows on deep balls, that's way better than underthrowing them. Most QBs are taught to throw it out there and let their receivers run under it. He's got the "throw it out there" part down, he just needs to learn to put a little air under it to give the receivers a chance to get to it.

I can't belive there are a handful of you morons that actually believe this.

I could buy it while both Lee and JJ were still here, but now they are both gone.
ZM has different skill set, different tendencies, different football presence all together.

+1
This game was likely won at about the 2 min mark....regardless of missed passes, etc.

our coaches play calling likely lost it for us.

Re: the Offensive line, we should be better, we are now in the so called "next year"..we are 11 games down the road.

If you want to debate the entire team focus, thats fine. But he is no different than alot of our players with their "cash money" twitter accounts. Russell Sheppard spent this whole season talking about getting his twitter account "verified" as if he were famous, and getting ready for the combine.

we were up 11 going into 4th quarter, should have put them away. The playcalling is too conservative, as soon as we get a lead we sit on it!!!
