Mett won a lot of respect in the locker room towards the back end of the season. Many teammates came away with a different point of view regarding him after some instances where he showed some real leadership.
He has also been working with all the younger receivers for some time with extra reps, etc.
He is not lacking for confidence.

Tom Brady was goofy and immature when he was splitting time at QB at Michigan.... He split time with Henson.... Also beat Arkansas and Alabama in bowl games.... So if Mett is even half as good as that.... We are in good shape. I wouldn't worry.

My buddy works in the AD and says Mett always asks him if he has weed in his bag when he walks by.
I'm not sure what to make of it. Nor is he (said buddy).

It's just a case of a writer wanting to get a little rise out of the people who read the article. He holds onto this little bit of throw-away information for over a month and drops it into the article to try and stir things up a little more. The only bit of effort he put into the whole thing.
