Thanks, I already watched the highlights and a little bit of game action, but highlights don’t show all of the empty posessions which might tell a little bit more about the teams identity

You’ve been waiting for this since all the way back in 23-24’

Didn't see that but there was a scrimmage open to season ticket holders yesterday. We've got guys who can shoot. The new point guard Thomas looks legit.

I'm still skeptical we've done enough to improve what I think is and has been the biggest issue under CMM - toughness and physicality. So I'm worried the open shots I'm seeing now may not be all that open once the bigger/physical team come pushing us around and neither will the boards be there.

But of course, I hope I'm wrong.

The good:

Thomas controlled the offense. Particularly in the second half. The 9:2 A/TO ratio was impressive to go along with his 2nd half scoring

Sutton showed some versatility by scoring inside and (mostly) outside.

Nwoko has a solid game. But only 6 rebounds to go with 5 fouls is concerning

Tamba played with the most energy of anyone

The bad:

TURNOVERS - The only consistency in McMahon's offense has been the frequency in which they turned the ball over. The last two seasons they have been dead last in the SEC in that category. It's easy to say "well, it's just the first exhibition". Unfortunately, when TOs have been THE staple of your offense for nearly 100 games you don't get the benefit of the doubt

Reed looked like the "bad" Reed. Generally lethargic and was a liability handling the ball. He'll have some games this year where he goes off inside. But he's played a lot of games at LSU. He is who he is. An inconsistent player capable of a big game here and there.

Rim protection was non-existent. Only 1 block. Last year was McMahon's best defensive team. The single biggest reason for that was shot blocking...largely by Chest and Collins. They are gone. There are concerns about the defense. While not totally, the second half shooting struggles and tons of TOs by UCF were more a result of poor play by UCF than good play by LSU.

Overall:

The individual peices, overall, are better than last year's group.

However, the general structure of the offense (and defense) looked mostly the same. On offense there is still no sense of urgency/suddenness with anything they do. How well they pay on any given night will be largely based on Thomas' ability to create the offense. If he struggles there is nothing to fall back on. Defense is a concern.

It was a win vs. a Big 12 opponent, on the road. Which isn't nothing. The fact it was an exhibition game really didn't matter because neither team played like it was an exhibition game. It looked like a regular season game...albeit between two teams picked to finish near the bottom of their respective leagues.

It was a win without your best post player in Robert Miller. It's the first game of an all new team so expecting them to click right off the bat is unrealistic. Yes they turned the ball over 15 times but only 5 in the second half. That will clean up as they get used to playing with each other. Reed is not going to look good right away. it is a process and will take a few months for him to get 100% confident in his knee. been there done that. They moved the ball which is something I like to see. We will see about the physicality as we move along. Biggest issue will be backup PG is a freshman so will take some time for him to get comfortable playing in the SEC. Shot 6-10 from 3 in second half which is something we never do. Hopefully they can continue to shoot well as the competition improves.

lower tier SEC type squad.

That's all.

For those expecting LSU to finish in the upper half of the SEC. Wake up from your dream.

Ya outside of team defense as a whole, I’m worried about turnovers and offensive rebounds. A lot of the higher tier teams in the sec like Kentucky and bama shoot a massive amount of 3’s. So our only chance to maybe snipe an upset or two is by hoping they shoot bad, but when ya turn it over or give up offensive rebounds that’s extra possessions they get and a opportunity to get things going even in a bad night.

Oh and it’s to early to tell, but I’m curious whose gonna be our lockdown defender or if we have any.

We were definitely more physical during the exhibition game than I’ve seen from CoachMc’s previous teams. Don’t know if it holds up, but it was good to see.

Didn't get to see that game, but I hope you are correct. I did not get the feeling from watching the scrimmage that I was seeing a wholesale upgrade in that regard, but I long to be proven otherwise.

I did see some things I liked, but I've seen that early in a couple of the other seasons of late.

Nwoko, simply on size alone, is more physical that most of McMahon's frontcourt players. Sutton played with energy. Same with Tamba. But is this a "physical" team? I'm not ready to go there just yet.

The game stats for both teams were almost identical...except in one key area.

Both made 26 FGs overall. Both made 10 3 pointers. Both had 36 rebounds. Both had nearly an identical amount of turnovers, fouls, and steals. The difference: LSU was 13-19 from the FT line. UCF was 6-12
