Most naive post ever. Please name one program that didn’t cheat in order to be good.

This is the dumbest thing I’ve heard in a while.
Basketball actually makes money, regardless of the records. And when we are winning, fan support is there.
Your going to fund women’s basketball but not men’s… what’s moron

You’d find much more than 2.
The reality is that LSU fans are the definition of bandwagon fans… Hell we can’t keep butts in the seats for football games outside of top 15 SEC marching

My question to you "die on the basketball hill" guys is simple. How much of the 21-22 mil do we spend?? Every dime takes away from a sport we are better at. Our basketball money is SET. It's not going up unless we make deep runs. It's NOT smart business to invest heavy into something that has never consistently won.
Prior to Sabans arrival, LSU Football was more average/below average than great.
Go get a great HC and LSU can win in MBB

Well, you just found two. Me and my son. We both BLEED purple and gold, but only care about football and men's basketball.
FYI, those 2 sports are the only 2 almost all college fans care about.
Nationally, I bet all the other sport's support COMBINED don't equal the support of either football or men's basketball.
A lot of this board doesn't grasp how HUGE basketball was here, and would be again if we just started making regular tournament appearances. Just like NC st is about to do. Thanks Scott.

Men's basketball could go 0-30 and they'd still make the university millions of dollars. If men's basketball went 30-0, the school would make millions more dollars.
I'm curious about this. How much more does an SEC program such as Tennessee bring in for mens basketball compared to LSU?
And then how much does a baseball program such as Kentucky lose compared to LSU?
Then do the same for women's basketball vs a weak SEC program.
Reason I ask is because I know all SEC mens basketball programs are making money due to the TV deal so the shite teams can sort of ride the coattails of the better teams. In baseball you have to sell tickets to generate revenue which means you have to be good. I'm sure mens basketball still has a far bigger impact but I would be curious if anyone knows where to find these numbers.
I'd much rather have a good baseball program than basketball, especially women's. But if basketball can be profitable enough to help pay for baseball then that has to be considered

We should punt until we bring back Wade or hire a new coach. McBasement will never be a winner no matter the budget

even more simple explanation than all the others above...we didn't do well at basketball, because we didn't spend on basketball. We need to spend on basketball like everyone else is doing. Then we will see different results. The state is loaded with talent coming up over the next few years...add in the Tiger Seeds (Spears Jr. and Bass Jr and LaFell Jr) we could be on the brink of something good, AS LONG AS WE SPEND.

Doubling down on
Stupidity huh?
Just bc you don’t like basketball doesn’t mean no one else does

does not matter which sport is better.
it's which one brings in money.
Couple of obvious flaws in that reasoning (even if the conclusion is correct).
#1 is the assumption that the perspective being discussed is that of a financial investor, whose sole goal is financial return. As an institution of athletic competition between academic institutions, and even more so as a fan of such an institution, there are obviously other factors involved.
#2, and as the OP alluded to, even from a financial perspective the investment decision is not properly based on which sport will generate more revenue, but rather in which sport the investment of the $22 million extra dollars will generate the biggest increase in revenue.
If basketball revenues would rise from $5 million to $5.1 million, amd baseball would rise from $2 million loss to $1.5 million loss, baseball is the better investment ($500,000 added to your bottom line > $100,000).
Personally, I think basketball is worth investing in because it can be (and has been) super fun and exciting. We don't have to be a "basketball school" in order for basketball to be worthwhile. But baseball is obviously worth investing in as well.
