We are related...kinda. And your grandpa is the "Daddio on the Raddio".

At this point I wouldn't stress about what his average will be over his freshman year, LSU needs his glove in the middle of the infield. Even if he replicates an Andrew Stevenson in 2013 or a Mike Papierski in 2016 I think it'll be a boost to the team just from shoring up the defense a bit.

Wasn't that your avi for a while?

I made it for another poster. The one who was Stevenson’s only fan to start the year.

Kinda sounds like Nola as a freshman.

Hm, so it sounds like there's a chance that Smith doesn't win the job back once healthy and we can slot him in at 3rd.

Though he hit .360 as a high school senior, Hughes’ bat doesn’t define him
Hitting .360 in high school is pretty crappy for someone that expects to play for LSU.

The Twins top 30 prospect list hit MLB.com today. Listed among them are Blayne Enlow, Jacob Pearson, and Andrew Bechtold.

He reminds me of Bregman. Hope he pans out and maybe surprise us a bit with his bat.

If what you say is true, Smith might be a bat looking for a position in the field when he comes back.
Not really, If hughes does a good job Smith would go back to 3rd because he's better than Slaughter, then Jake can go back to first if he's hitting well. If not and Bryce is not costing us defensively then Slaughter won't play.

I hope you are right. Hal hit .171 in fall ball and improved to .214 in the 6 scrimmages I saw in spring.

If he plays well and isn’t just an automatic out, I’d consider leaving him at short and putting Smith back at 3rd when he comes back. Unless Slaughter figures it out, which I am not optimistic about.
I would not be so quick to bench Slaughter based off a slow start. He is probably the best power hitter on the team. He hit .257 as a freshman, not great but not bad.
The most important metric in the ball going over the fence is exit speed from the bat. In the fall, Slaughter hit the ball harder than any other player.
I wouldn't be so quick to take out of the lineup a player who might end up being our best home run and long ball hitter. Slaughter has crazy bat speed.

Recently, the account tweeted the top exit speeds recorded from LSU hitters during the entirety of the fall, and Jake Slaughter’s name was all over the leaderboard. In fact, he had five of the top ten exit velocities, including the four highest of the fall- 109.31 mph, 108.38 mph, 108.25 mph, and 108.16 mph, to go along with a 106.98 mph swing that placed eighth on the list. He also led the team in home runs for the fall with three.
That hints at prodigious power that would make former LSU slugger Greg Deichmann proud. Deichmann just finished up his LSU career with 30 homers, including 19 in his final season, but he’s now in pro baseball (as is Michael Papierski, who was second on the team with 11 homers) so the Tigers are going to be looking to replace some production from a power standpoint.
With the power he’s shown, the sophomore Slaughter looks the part, even if he suffered through an up-and-down freshman season. In 53 games, 40 of which were starts, he hit .257/.358/.351 with five doubles, three home runs, and 26 RBI.

Slaughter's approach was terrible this weekend. He pulled off so many pitches and it felt like he had a 2-strike count every AB.

Depends what type of high school you go to.

Hughes was one of my picks for sleepers.
