Many of McManus’ passed balls are a result of his back handed attempts to field balls that are low or in the dirt. I am surprised that as a catcher he has not been taught during his career and by the current staff to shift his feet to try and block the ball with his body. Yes….sometimes it’s a wild pitch but a catcher should always try to block the ball with his body at all costs. A pitcher that is ahead in the count would like to be able to trust his catcher to block a ball that is intentionally thrown off the plate to entice the hitter to swing. Especially if there is a runner on third base.

I like his hitting but his “Ole” catching has hurt LSU this season and I’m concerned it will again at a critical moment if LSU can continue to extend its season. He could be one of LSU’s best catchers if he can improve his defense.

He has to get on his feet and off his knee. You can’t move on a knee.

Mostly due to pitchers crossing him up but yes, his natural instincts are not mechanically sound. Needs instructional summer with the MLB guys.

Ideally you have Milazzo at catcher Dugas in left and McManus DHing but unfortunately injuries are keeping their best lineup from being a possibility.

I’d say let’s put Travinski in. He got the ball when he was catching. Maybe not as well as TM, but what do we have to lose. Giving up a run or 2 a game is not beneficial to us right now.

We don't have a coach on staff that can coach catchers.

The traditional squat of a catcher is no longer a thing

It hurts us at least once a game as far as pass balls not to mention framing. It is what it is. We are what we are. We gotta hope our bats come alive today.

Analytics nerds are striking again.

I don’t see how anyone can think framing to steal a pitch or two >>>> passed balls or can’t throw guys out.

But that’s what they say the one-knee crap does.

Get the nerds out of baseball.

At the MLB level it makes sense. It does not make sense at the college level. Pitchers are just too erratic at this stage. When a MLB pitcher misses its inches. When a college pitcher misses it can be feet.

Him being on a knee doesn’t affect the passed balls & the way he catches them

He didn’t come to lsu to play school or play catch.

He came to swing as long as humanly possible for a 5’-10” guy, even with 2 strikes.

He needs to be corrected on his stance. He sits on his knee which makes it very difficult to slide to block the ball

With his injuries, I'm not sure he'd be able to move on his feet either.

Travinski isn’t a very good catcher either and his bat is nowhere near McManus. It may not be a net positive

At the MLB level they aren't really sacrificing one for the other. Pitchers are refined and catchers setup on one knee so that if the ball is in the dirt its going bounce right into their chest. WPs/PB still happen when a guy completely misses his spot but not as often as the do at the college level.

162 game season and saving a guy's knees probably has something to do with it as well.

Travinski vs McManus behind the plate is pretty much a wash

McManus > Travinski as a hitter even though TMc had a rough game last night.

Some of you people are AH`s.McManus gives his all and
plays hard for LSU. It`s not his fault if he`s limited
in his abilities.Don`t blame him ,blame PM for not
recruiting a better catcher. He`s what we have quit putting
down our players ,put the blame where it belongs.
As Skip told Paul Bird one time when he pulled him,it`s
not your fault I recruited you.
