Rooting for him ? Yes
Believe in him? Not even a little.
This is LSU spin to make people hopeful for what’s going to be a lame duck season for him.
They know once spring football starts and baseball going, people won’t rage about basketball and not firing this dud for long so just weather the storm for a week or two

McHallman could have the 11-12 Kentucky roster and we’d still be a bubble team at best.

Im not refuting that. I have little hope.
But i would appreciate them actually investing in basketball, even if i disagree with their method of doing it….if they actually do it

So next year when we suck again, they will be able to say " well it's his first year really knowing about how important NIL money is " and then they will give him some more years to frick the program

Sounds like bullshite. Dead man walking.
It’s a perpetual series of excuses happily accepted by those whose “fandom” consists of watching 15 minutes of 4 games in January or February.
In year 1 one he came in and quickly proved he was out of his league at the major conference level. After that complete embarrassment he said (his words, not mine) “we have to get older”. So he signed several 4th and 5th year players in the portal and only 2 HS signees. That “older” team was better, but far from good. 17-16 is not good…even for the low expectations of LSU.
Then, despite needing to be “older”
in year 2, he evidently allocates the NIL to signing top 100 HS players in year 3. He gets pantsed by the league once again, with the usual cabal of excuse makers saying LSU is “too young” to compete.
What’s going to be next year’s excuse? We just need triple the salary of the Boston Celtics to recruit space aliens?
His statement inadvertently confirms what anyone who has been paying attention already knows. He’s not fit for the major conference level. Those guys know exactly what they have to do and work towards executing a plan. McMahon, on the other hand, has never been a part of a major conference program and is just hoping to figure it out along the way.

I can’t believe CMM said this. Woody or someone in the Athletic Department had to instruct CMM to say this. It’s just too dumb. But why? Why would Woody or someone else above CMM want him to say something so idiotic?

This is the last extension of the leash for him. It’s do or die going into next season

He should use some of that dough to bring in an offensive coordinator on the bench.
But hey, per the 4 remaining McMen, prime Hakeem Olajuwon aka Jalen Reid will solve these problems.

Crazy to think LSU lost to Pitt WITH Jalen Reed lmaooooo
Posted on 2/17/25 at 9:41 pm to tigerbait2010
Hey now, don’t insult the Jackson Joker like that. Reed is a top 2 overall NBA draft pick according to the mcmen.

But it puts MM and the AD in a corner heading into tomorrow because if LSU loses, at home, to a winless (conference play) USC team who purportedly has no NIL funding then it will be difficult to support an MM is only losing because of a lack of NIL support.

If you believe the money is there to “increase NIL” then the money is there to fund a 4 year buyout (if fired after this season) as opposed to a 3 year buyout (if fired after next season). The additional cost of a 4 year buyout is ~$2.7M. McMahon is getting that money whether he coaches next year or not. LSU isn’t “saving” anything.
Call it hubris, an unwillingness to accept a mistake, or just blind optimism, it appears the approach is to double-down on a bad bet rather than cut bait and use the funds to potentially change course and improve the program.
Either that, or it is a leverage bluff to potential other candidates who may be interested in the job.

South Carolina had its best regular season in 25 years, gave their HC a raise and extension, yet decided to DECREASE NIL spending for the following season?
Yep. That sounds completely logical

The double-down is just mind-numbing for me. Cut your losses and move on. It's akin to a dude at a poker table that isn't very good and also running cold, you can only bluff your way into a few hands, then everyone is calling your arse and you get busted.
That should not be the course for LSU AD and LSU MBB.
Seeing the forest through the trees should be our goal, not going full tilt.

I suspect what may be going on is they can’t raise the buyout money and they are trying to save face by saying they are going to keep McMahon (because they don’t have any other choice) with “increased NIL commitment” in hopes that will encourage people to donate.
Unfortunately, this ain’t football. I doubt the big donors…who could have donated more over the past 3 years and didn’t are eager to sink more money into a bad “investment”. The “little donors” (fans) are becoming less and less, and equally apathetic. The AD is trying to sell a shite sandwich he made with the hope enough people will buy it. Who knows? Maybe in April we’ll see Woodward doing magic tricks on a PBS pledge drive with the promise of a commemorative tote bag and DVD copy of Ken Burns - “Baseball” to all who pledge $50

same thing with Brian Kelly.

This feels like the most realistic answer

Bingo

It also took Kelly a year to realize that we are living in a different world now.
