Verge said we can’t win in every sport. Not enough money to go around.

Yea that’s not true. You can’t claim to be a top 5 most valuable athletic program then say we don’t have money to support the only other money maker besides football. Besides all off season all we heard was that we’d finally spent the money needed to win.

We need a new basketball coach. But I’m not sure that LSU could make sweet sixteens and elite 8’s since the commitment to winning in hoops isn’t there by the administration. We are not exactly a basketball blue blood. Florida wins and Alabama is winning though.

See this is the football mentality a lot of our fans have. In basketball you need to make the tourney every year, that’s the goal. Once you get to that level one run can change everything but you have to qualify every year. Look at Jim Boeheim, it took him 27 years to win his natty. Look at Roy Williams, it took him 18-19 years even though he had top 1-5 talent basically every year. Kelvin Sampson has been an elite coach for 25 years and doesn’t have one yet. Qualifying for the Dance every year is the goal.

What’s sad is this same feeling set in with Johnny and Trent. 3 of our last 4 coaches have been pretty bad. Jones and Trent did get us to the Dance at some point, so I’ll credit them that.

He is not an “embarrassment”. He is a great guy and good representative of LSU. However, he is an average coach that had no support from the university until this year, then has had injuries, and is in a conference above his weight class.

Let the season play out then he is probably gone. What I hate to tell fans is that we are going to be 1-6 in the SEC, then you have winnable games. We were on the bubble going into last night, if you finish the season 7-11 in conference you might actually make the tournament…imagine how pissed people will be then

The next four after Saturday are what many have called "winnable" games this year, but---

vs Miss St
@ South Carolina
vs Georgia
vs Arkansas

The first two should be winnable, assuming LSU just plays like they did vs Kentucky and Missouri. The next one, vs Georgia, doesn't appear winnable-- Mike White has the Dawgs rolling. And I don't believe LSU is beating coach Cal and Arkansas on any court, this year.

Do you feel better now that you've vented? Do you think Verge probably has his own timeline of when he announces that it's time to make a change and move on.

Maybe it would be best if he fires him now just to silence all of the jerkwads who keep repeating the same shite day after day.

There is nothing to be gained by canning him at this point in the season. Assuming Ausberry is going to make a change, he's probably already vetting resumes and developing a short list. Plus he's got to get the basketball donors to make a commitment not just for a higher salary for the new coach but also some NIL cash.

Let Verge do his job and it will all work out. Wailing, screaming and crying on the Rant won't make it happen any faster.

It was time to get rid of him 3 years ago. It is only extreme hubris that has allowed him to remain our head coach for this long. His teams have never once looked competitive in conference play, and they make the exact same mistakes every year. I see consistency and no progression from year 1 to 4.

all of this is correct.

however, I am concerned that his style is slightly outdated. I would like to see a more analytical approach like bama and tamu. I want them to find threes in transition. I want more paint-touch 3's. the modern game is about layups, free throws, and 3's.

bama will fly down the court toward the basket then not take the layup, but find the man in the corner who immediately flings it to the trailing guy who has just arrived on the break to the 3 pt line for an open shot. they prioritize open 3s and find them. MacMahon doesn't seem to do that. I dunno if I have ever seen his guys take a 3 in transition.

I am embarrassed that our program has averaged single-digit conference wins every season he's been here. Actually, it's worse than that. None of his teams have won more than 4 conference games. That's abysmal. That's literally the worst this program has ever been over a three year stretch. I am embarrassed, and you should be too.

Not to defend his horrendous overall record, but year 2 was 9-9 in the SEC.
