re: MBB: LSU 85 @ Texas 88 Final | MACKINNON with 27

Yeah, McMahon is trying to get him to draw help in the lane and screen on the perimeter for a shooter. I don’t think our offense has been that bad thus far, we just aren’t really executing on our opportunities. Defending has been more of a problem than our offensive sets sucking.

I disagree, I think our offense is pallid.
High ball screen, drive or dump off. Doesn’t work? Rotate the ball around. Screen again.
Pass to the wing and have them drive.
Occasional Nwoko post up.
But it’s 80% just high ball screen and dribbling around mindlessly. It’s awful

Looking like Texas may get to play rock, paper, scissors tonight

Here in person tonight.
UT is really leaning into Mardi Gras. I will accept the cultural victory

He occasionally will get animated. But even then it comes across as totally forced. I sat right behind the bench at the UGA game. There were a couple of shitty calls that went against LSU. MM got animated with the ref for about 2 seconds...until the ref basically told him to sit down...which MM promptly did as the ref walked away chuckling.
You've won 20% of your games. You get pantsed 5 out of every 6 times you play an SEC opponent. If you feel you got wronged by a ref, let him know about it. Show your players you are going to go to the mat for them. What's the worst that could happen? You get a technical foul? Great! That means you lose by 22 instead of 19

Thought this was the best lsu team in the mm era by far
I'm gonna get hammered for saying this, but I think it was.
Losing your two best players when your roster is mostly mid-level players has to hurt. Acting like it doesn't is no more realistic than not acknowledging we are still losing games we should win and look worse than we should, even without those two guys.
And we need a new coach to fix this.

As an overall picture of the season I agree. But it has provided enough opportunities tonight. Texas doesn’t appear to be as physical as many of the other teams we have played. Our perimeter defense has been bad.

It’s horrible damn near every game, every year. I said this at the start of the year- that our perimeter defense was dogshit, and I got crucified for it.
I used to care enough to go back and quote myself, but I just don’t care enough anymore. It’s beating a dead horse.

Back at it again in the 2nd half

I don’t understand our transition game. We never use the 2-man game in a 2 on 1 opportunity. Ball handler takes it the rim no matter what every single time.

Worst perimeter defense we’ve ever had

Watch Nwoko on that last play. Just standing and watching

We had no Jalen Cook and went 9-9 with Jordan Wright playing hero ball. Losing players is a part of the picture, but it makes you wonder how we managed to go 9-9 after doing so poorly OOC.
On paper I would rank the teams this way:
1. Year 3
2. Year 2
3. Year 4
4. Year 1
I will repeat myself- we CRIMINALLY underachieved last year. That roster was way too talented to not make the NCAAT.

What?
Last year was better than this year or the Jordan Wright year??? RU sure?

But why is it necessary each year to lose key players before the SEC play begins, and last year they compounded it with broadscale opt-outs? There's a serious sickness in the basketball culture which just continues.
It's true: SW de facto imposed the death penalty on LSU basketball. If McMahon isn't dismissed after SEC conference play, can the team just opt out of an entire year for next season?

On paper (which means irrespective of the results), yes.

I like Tamba as a player, and he is a good defensive specialist. But he really should be playing 10-15 minutes a game.
That has been a weakness of CMM in that he loves a defensive specialist in his regular rotation vs challenging one of the other players to be better on defense.
