this team is absent any talent or Cushing. They can’t get hot. We have 6-7 moral victories.
I think the players are good enough to win. I believe most of them make careless errors and turnovers too often and at crucial game junctures. They then let game get away from them and lose confidence and focus following bad turnovers They don’t seem to play with much hustle or grit. They routinely get pushed around on the boards, seem soft and sloppy rebounding overall. They’re rarely diving for loose balls. I think these are all characteristics of poor coaching. They could be tighter with a better coach who could motivate or correct. I believe the team is good enough to win, but McMahon clueless of what levers to pull when. A different coach could win with this team even with the Thomas injury I believe.

I haven’t watched the post game presser yet but I’m sure McMahon’s drippy statement will probably be along the lines of
“Credit Alabama. They’re a tough team that made plays when they needed to. We just need to stick together and focus on the short term goals.”
No answers of substance or any ideas on how to fix this mess will be given.

MM post game Alabama loss
Here is his presser. Circle K nailed it. Credit bama, we have to get better, blah, blah. He has no idea. Please let this suffering mercifully end.

I can honestly say that I had not seen that before my predictive post. Pretty sad I can nail it by now. Imagine how predictable his game plans are by now?

Pretty pathetic indeed

You’d swear he’s 23-2 coming in and we just had a little hiccup. Is he on drugs? Honestly, does he have any idea of what’s going on around him regarding his team and career?

He does not strike me as stupid actually. Even he has to figure that he’s not cut out for this level. Coaches have egos though.
I know money talks but if I were him, I’d have my agent seek out mid major opportunities to bolt to. You’d think he’d want to keep some dignity in tact.

His coach and mentor works in the front office for the Hornets. He was a dog shite college coach as well. I don’t think McMahon is going to get a HC job after this. I think he will either go to work for Buzz in Charlotte or he gets on one of his buddy’s staffs as an assistant after this.

I think you’re right. Probably the assistant route if I had to guess. I truly am baffled as to how he made it as far as he has in the profession. Talk about falling (up) through the cracks.

It would be stunning if matt McMahon got another head coaching job after this. I do agree that his recruiting ability could earn him a decent assistant gig somewhere but no bigger role than handing off the bag

Buzz was only with the Hornets because Jordan stacked the front office with UNC guys. Buzz and Jordan are gone now. The best case scenario for McMahon dipping for a lesser job was him going back to Murray St but Murray St actually takes their program serious so they fired McMahon's replacement after last year.
Evansville is last in the Socon in their coach's 4th year. Maybe they remember when he was at Murray and want him.

Politics, I have a few friends in the “community” and to a man they all knew what this guy was before we hired him. It wasn’t merit based, I don’t think anything in his career has been.

Didn’t know Buzz was gone, I see he’s now a talent evaluator lol. See this is what I mean, these are like mafia no show jobs, they don’t require achievement. This is McMahon’s lane/path IMO because he absolutely cannot coach or be a HC more specifically. I could see him coaching summer league in the NBA or something.

It’s mind boggling. You can look at the record, it’s awful but when you look at how we play, what’s his teams identity? Are we up tempo, trying to score a bunch? Do we play good D, aggressive, hustling, tenacious? Do we control the glass, do we bang the offensive boards? Do we pressure teams? Do we use analytics and the 3 ball? Are we big, are we athletic? Do we lean on guard play? Do we play through the forwards? Is there a yes to any of those questions?
Posted on 2/21/26 at 11:37 pm to Madking
Was it you who asked if he was on drugs earlier?
I don’t even disagree. Something is completely off about his time at LSU. Would genuinely be curious what he has to say about his time here besides his old record of cliches for every interview

Yea, his behavior is so bizarre. I see people say he has no fire, no energy and I don’t disagree but there’s more to it than just that. He's like Goodell Bot on South Park, like you say he just repeats canned, monotone phrases like he’s programmed. It’s like he’s not even aware of what’s happening. Did you see the page he was reading from in the presser? There was a lot on that page, probably every word he spoke was written down.

Yea, Tuitt is a tough one because his two years were basically simultaneous to the birth of what we know to be basketball. Prior to 1965 the game itself was so fundamentally different than what it was after that.
I give him a pass. He did not know when he took the job that he could not recruit black athletes to play basketball at LSU, and he was promised a few other things that were taken off the table after he signed, including a new basketball arena. LSU was still playing in the Cow Palace then.

Man we have heard the same bullshite for 52 of 68 post game sec press conferences, we gotta get better no how just BK level shite.
I know it doesn’t really give us any strategic advantage but something needs to be done today. If you really think matt is such a nice guy go ahead and end his failure before he touches Creans record of incompetence. Let’s save him from being the worst head coach ever in the sec
