It can’t be overstated how much Finley being quick enough to scramble opens up the offense
40 times I found posted are:
Brennan - 4.99
Finley - 4.85
Neither one of them are running away from ANYBODY.
It's astonishing the number of people on here who think Finley is a running QB (I guess his skin color makes people assume that). And the number of people who think you need a dual threat QB to run the RPO.

So who do you want to be QB

MB might be decent taking off and running but he is a a statue in the pocket. I don't know if it's a lack of awareness or simply slow feet but he doesn't slide around in the pocket like Finley. That's the root of his struggles on 3rd down. It wasn't simply that Finley got better protection, Finley sidestepped pressure all night that would have sacked Brennan.
We obviously were not watching the same game. Brennan is trusted to stand in the pocket and make the correct reads. You could see him becoming more and more comfortable throughout each game.
They got the ball out of Finley's hands quick. He didn't have a whole lot of sitting in the pocket and going through progressions at all.
I fully expect Auburn to study the film and make adjustments to take that away from Finley. I don't think it's going to come quite as easily for him this week.
All that being said, Finley did an exceptional job of doing what he was asked to do. It's great to know we have a solid option at QB after Brennan. He will only get better with more time. Ensminger also did a great job of preparing an offense to make Finley comfortable and allowing him to succeed.

Brennan should start when healthy. Is our offense dependant on a dual threat QB now for some reason?

It will be obvious after Auburn. Finley will either be awesome or look lost. Hopefully he looks great versus Auburn. If he does, it’s his job.

Agreed. That's IF they give him a larger package of the offense to run and he looks as good as he did against SC though.

Nope, I agree. I’d hate to see Brennan lose his job because of an injury. I do like having another option should a game start to go south and we need a spark or a change

he's UNhealthy due to a ridiculously stupid decision against inferior competition.
State has one of the best defenses in the SEC and Missouri is barely better than SC. I took the average conference rankings of these six defensive measurements; 3rd down, red zone, pass, rush, scoring and total defense.
State came out to 3.3, Missouri was 6.5 and SC was 6.67. You could say SC and Missouri are equal but against Missouri we gave up 2 sacks and Myles was pressured on 1/3 of all passing attempts. Not to mention only running for 50 yards on 20 carries. So basically he put up amazing numbers against better competition with 0 running/oline help.

Maybe our running game under TJ was better because the defense knew TJ was an actual threat to run
How would they know that? Did he run in HS.
What did he have, twenty yards in the game? Johnson had almost that in one run.
He was good because he was calm in the pocket and we had a running game.

With élite competition it's not about what you do wrong it's about what the other guy does better than you. If TJ blows the doors of Aubie it will be clear who will give us the best chance to win against Bama. That's all that really matters at the end of the day, its not about who deserves what ect.

MB did nothing thus far to move him to the bench when healthy
I tend to agree but sometimes an injury opens the door for someone who proves himself to just be too good to go back to the bench when the original starter is healthy.
We don’t yet know if that Is TJ or not.
But should Lou Gehrig gone back to the bench when Wally Pip got healthy? Should Tom Brady have gone back to the bench when Bledsoe got healthy?

Something tells me that if TJ continues to play and has success, Nuss is going to feel a little shaky... I don't know much about Max J, but do we NEED him to win a championship at LSU?

Oddly he did at one point in the AFC championship game and it created a legit QB controversy for the Superbowl

It doesn’t really matter at this point, we lost 2 games to shitty teams. So I just say roll with hot hand
Posted on 10/29/20 at 4:31 am to RaginTXTiger
the only thing that should matter is who is the better qb.

Exactly.
Next year you already are going to have a battle between Myles and TJ, then you have Nussmeier coming in.
I highly doubt Max stays.
Another way to look at it...how awesome is it to have multiple solid QBs that can step in and light it up at LSU finally?!
After this season the QB situation will work itself out and it will be a great setup for LSU. Brennan/Finley as starter and backup in some order. Even if Brennan starts Finley will have multiple years of eligibility left When Brennan leaves.
Max Johnson is going to transfer after this season. I wish he wouldn’t but the nature of that position now it’s just what’s going to happen.
Nuss will redshirt next year to put some space in his eligibility from Finley.
Odds are it won’t work out like that the nature of that position leads to uncertainty but but it isn’t a stretch to see LSU starting Brennan/Finley/Nuss over the next 5-6 years. When was the last time you could say that about LSU’s qb situation?
Posted on 10/29/20 at 7:45 am to RaginTXTiger
All of you claiming the run game last week was because of Finley are completely overlooking the role of the OL, which for the first time this year pretty well dominated the line of scrimmage against SC.

Vandy. Mizzou. State. Don't leave out that context. It matters.
Really and South Carolina is a juggernaut. I understand the competition of the 3 opponents may not be Auburn/BAMA but the kid still provided opportunity for LSU to win. The losses is not on him.
