In terms of depth, it's a huge loss.

I think we can all agree we didn’t see much progression from him since his first start last season

Max is a fine quarterback...and better than average for LSU quarterbacks since Matt Flynn.

I feel sorry for him that his experience at LSU was the chaos of 2020 and 2021. I totally understand his decision.

That being said, I'd be happy with a clean start at QB with a new coach.

Give him a break. He had zero support from the press box. Our OC was learning on the job at Max's expense and Max was looking at the prospects of facing a third coordinator next year. I hate to see him leave. I hate to see him leave with the season not complete......but give him a break.

I wish him well but without major changes he'll never see the league...

Yeah, I definitely see it as a big loss. He wasn't a bad QB. He was only a Sophomore. Even if he's not the starter, the more competition @QB the better.

Losing a starting qb is always a big loss especially when there is only one other scholarship qb on the roster

He was on the edge of being the starting QB for a couple reasons...

No doubt Brad Johnson and probably his uncle, Mark Richt factored into this decision. I can't help but thinking that there is something more that they knew that was coming down and it was not Kelly or his possible choice of coordinator that determined it. There are whispers of major sanctions on the horizon if what I'm hearing is right.

We shite on Max for taking sacks but he really didn't take much.

33 all year

Bryce Young got sacked 33 all year too.

shite, Myles Brennan got sacked 9 times in 3 games.

He actually regressed this year

No he didn't. His two starts in 2020 were against two of the poorest defenses in CFB that year, and in spite of the victories, he wasn't any great shakes in either game.

Max wasn't any great shakes in any game this year. He's not an SEC calibre QB.

He’s a leftie. Nothing ever felt right about that to me.

I think Max will be better once he learns how to throw with the right arm.

Hopefully the next program he goes to can help him learn to do that.

He wasn’t terrible. But he also wasn’t good and he has zero ability to push the ball down the field

Even if he lost thr starting job next season, having a back up with SEC experience over having a true freshman or walk on as your backup is 100 times better

Why would Jake Johnson not want to attend LSU any longer, when Brain Kelly always produced some of the best TE's in the country at Notre Dame?
