LSU terminates the contract w/o cause, MM is owed 80% of remaining contract to be paid out during the remaining term of the contract. My estimations of the payouts are as follows (rough estimations)
After 23-24----$12 million
After 24-25----$ 9.6 million
After 25-26----$ 7.2 million
After 26-27----$ 4.8 million
Just don't understand programs guaranteeing this much without proven success.
It's stupid

He just needs an assistant coach that does Will Wade Business and players will come.

LSU athletics is self-sufficient and it is not supported by tax dollars, money from the university, or fees from student tuition.
The base salary is the only portion the University covers.

I really think Woodward hired MM to get the NCAA off our backs. I do think he’s a good coach if he can get comparable talent to his competitors. That is the big question though and early indications aren’t great.

Better grab a handful of snickers. This basketball program ain’t going nowhere for a few years minimum.
But hey, baseball is going to knock it out the park for the foreseeable future.
Football will be exciting to kick around.
And womens basketball is gaining steam the next few years.

This is what I have been wondering. What kind of recruiter is McMahon? And also, how good is he at talent evaluation?
Hopefully, if his skills are lacking in those areas, he can at least be competent enough to surround himself with qualified assistant coaches.

KJ is the only SEC caliber player we have on the roster and you guys act like it’s the coaches fault.

This really ruins my Jan-March for the next three years.
I’d be happy with 9-9, just be competitive, that’s all I ask.

I agree, on Feb 7 it looks bleak. But we’ll know better in April and once the transfer portal weeds itself out. LSU can offer instant playing time.
McMahon came to LSU at the end of the ‘21-‘22 recruiting cycle. He was able to convince 3 players to stay and pick up 3 top 150 high school kids. He also brought over 3 pretty decent kids with him from Murray St. Considering the circumstances, at least on paper, he did a good job assembling a roster of bodies to put on the court.
In hindsight the on-court play hasn’t been very good as of late. But this team was never going to be very good, and only the very optimistic or uninformed expected otherwise.
Teams are negative recruiting the hell out of LSU. Plus McMahon runs a clean program. We’ll see if success is possible doing that in a top D-1 basketball conference.

Clean programs and boring coaches can’t win in the sec. It didn’t work when original TJ was here and the league was way down . Now Vanilla TJ is here and the sec is super strong with dick bags like Cal and Oates.

Though the white TJ name is spot on, at least Trent Johnson won the SEC here. McMahon won't ever sniff that kind of success especially signing the 8th best players on other teams rosters as transfers and the 50th ranked class every season.
No doubt he was given a tough hand. Brian Kelly was too. So was Mulkey. So were a few other SEC Basketball coaches, they seem to be dealing with it all.
When coaches have massive turnarounds, at least you see his principles being instilled during the tough times and the ability to adjust and play to a teams strengths. It's the same in football, soccer, basketball, baseball, etc. Coaches adjust to their talent level and then they get the players they want and boom. Wade did it year 1. That team sucked on paper, however Wade used what he described as "smoke and mirrors" to make them competitive and play hard in his first year. He made the NIT with the preseason #13 or 14 team in the league.
Nothing about McMahon's performances so far give me any hope. His team doesn't play hard, his energy sucks arse (it sucks the energy out of the team and fanbase), and his adjustments suck. Even the Arkansas win doesn't even look impressive considering their struggles this season.

I think Woodward did as good of a job as he could have, and to just write McMahon completely off at this point is also dumb as hell.
He could've gone after the florida coach or the missou coach.
Liked both of them better.
Why the hell did he give him an 8 year deal??

As I've said before, the secret to Woody's hiring Big name coaches is the Brinks Truck called LSU Boosters.

I agree writing him completely off is dumb as hell at this moment. That said, he has done nothing to inspire confidence so far in his tenure and his recruiting and energy are massive red flags. If you can't see that, then it is naive.

Lucked out with Kelly, Johnson and Mulkey?
75% isn’t luck unless you use rantard logic.

It really is a shame what coaching contracts have become with all this guaranteed money. Want to pay guys a ton of money, great, but stop guaranteeing so much of it regardless of performance, and for such long contracts at that. It's ridiculous the situations it puts the boosters/schools/athletic departments into when things go wrong.
I mean can we even do anything if we come out and suck again next year with no improvement? We're not getting boosters to sign on to a $12M buyout for a basketball coach.

Programs are competing against each other to sign these guys. You have to put together an attractive offer to get them to come to your school.
