Just looked it up.

7 years UNLESS NCAA gives LSUMBB substantial penalties and then it is 8 years.

Salary starts at $2.6 million and rises to $3.2 million in Year Seven. (His base salary paid by LSU is only $400K a year.)

If LSU terminates the contract w/o cause, MM is owed 80% of remaining contract to be paid out during the remaining term of the contract. My estimations of the payouts are as follows (rough estimations)

After 23-24----$12 million
After 24-25----$ 9.6 million
After 25-26----$ 7.2 million
After 26-27----$ 4.8 million

Should be able to fire him immediately. This is good news.

The guy is going to be here for 3 more seasons after this one. They were always going to give him 4 years minimum.

KJ is the only SEC caliber player we have on the roster and you guys act like it’s the coaches fault.

Can you elaborate? What does "base salary" mean? If LSU is only responsible for $400K per year who pays the other 80%+ of his compensation and what does it entail? If they comprise incentive payments I can't imagine he qualifies for much this year given the results.

Who is responsible for putting together the roster though? I agree that he shouldn't be fired this year, that's ridiculous. He needs to show an ability to get players here, and improve next season though.

Fountain and Hayes are also SEC caliber players currently imo.

And yes it is ultimately his fault because he is the person who assembled this roster and brought those players here. Granted he did have a shortened offseason and inherited zero players so I will give him some grace but the current roster is awful.

It's the same for Kelly. They hold a state job, which is paying that base. Everything else on top of that comes from TAF.

Supplemental compensation and incentives.

Regardless, the structure of his contract means he will be seeing at least 3 years here imo.

Ridiculous contract given to McMahon by Woodward.

Many on here praise Woodward; it's insane the contract he gave McMahon and now we are stuck with him for a long time. All Woodward does is throw insane money at various coaches. Look what he did to A&M with Jimbo. He may have lucked out with B Kelly and J Johnson, but so far, it's pretty clear he bombed completely with McMahon.

LSU BB is going to suck for a while. I hate it, but I'm glad it's not football.

So when he hits on 2 of the 3 sports that matter in his first attempt it’s luck and when he misses(maybe)on one it’s because of his incompetence?

Dumb take.

No, what's idiotic is the people who think LSU can attract the same coaches in basketball as they do in football and baseball. Who the hell was coming here with the sanctions hanging over? I think Woodward did as good of a job as he could have, and to just write McMahon completely off at this point is also dumb as hell.

Anyone that expected to contend this year was delusional, but expecting to be competitive was a very realistic expectation. This team hasn’t really be competitive in ANY SEC games since Kentucky loss.

LMAO; did i say he was incompetent. That's your word. I simply said it appears he has bombed with McMahon and we are stuck with him for a long time.

The subject of the OP's thread was McMahon's contract.

The 'dumb take' is your own.

Negative ghost rider. You’re the idiot who said Kelly and Johnson were lucky hires so you could avoid giving Woodward credit before you took a shot at him over McMahon.

Every day on this board someone posts to remind me how thankful I am the majority that post here are not involved in any high level decision making at LSU. Today it was you.

Congratulations.

McMahon should get more time and he had to acquire almost the entire roster. Expecting him to acquire a really good roster under those circumstances in year one, especially with the unknown NCAA fallout, is unrealistic.

That said, he is responsible for putting a roster together. So he deserves blame for the fact the season has turned into a disaster. Absolving him of any blame is ridiculous. He deserves most of the blame.

Three- and four-year “plans” in Power 5 basketball usually mean you’re relying on players that are not that good. You can build mid-majors around three- and four-year players and hope you play well enough in the NCAA tournament to win a game or two. You can’t do that in Power 5 and expect to even get to the tournament. This isn’t 1982. You have to get some one- and two-year players and they have to be good.
