He is going to be the Friday night guy sooner than you expect; that is the point I am making. You are too stupid to realize that. I dont give a frick if you have watched him pitched since he was 8 years old.
I expect Marceaux to become the Friday starter sometime between next Friday and opening day next year. Anyone who is willing to predict with any more certainty is as dumb as you.

Marceaux is already starting on Saturdays. How is that "bringing a talented arm slowly".
Boy, you are dumb.

Ok, at least you finally gave an answer. But physical demands shouldn't come into play, if you are putting a guy in the rotation at all. Hess and Gilbert (especially Gilbert) were having such a rough go of it, that couldn't be counted on to get through 6 innings. So in that case, you go with the most effective guy, even if he's a freshman who you don't want to ask to go very deep.
I know exactly what Mainieri is doing. I've seen it over and over. It's nothing new.

Lol you are literally too stupid to carry on anymore with this conversation. You miss the point every time.

Your demands of a Friday starter are different. Of course you know that, or don’t you.
Marceaux is reportedly very talented. Hess is not a premeir Friday guy, but he has shown the ability to go high in pitch counts with no detriment.
Saving your pen is a vital role in your Friday guy. If, by design, you know you will be munching up innings from relievers because you put a young guy out would be silly.
Landon May be the Friday starter. He may not be. But there is zero reason to be declaring it in the first game of the season.

This is a half truth.
Sure, you want to eat up innings. But what matters most about your Friday guy is that he needs to give you your best shot at winning against the other team's ace. Hess can eat innings on Saturday, where there is less demand on him needing to be dominant. It does no good to save the bullpen, if you aren't giving yourself the best chance to win.
The whole workload thing for freshmen is also a half truth. It varies between different pitchers. Mainieri let guys like Lange, Gausman and Nola throw a lot of innings as freshmen. Those guys were all great talents. And that's the point here with Marceaux. He is also a great talent.
And he throws a lot of strikes, so I think he'll be one of the more efficient pitchers we've seen.

It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks or says. CPM has said Hess will be the Friday starter regardless . I think he promised Hess that to get him to come back.

And it doesn't matter if it matters what we think or say. It's just a discussion.
And yes, I assume a number of things were promised. I think being a starter, period, was a promise Mainieri had to make for him to come back.
That doesn't mean he's going to stay the Friday night guy, if ANY other pitcher outperforms him significantly. And I think Hess (not that it's up to him) would certainly understand that and be willing to accept it, because he's going to play a vital role, no matter what. If he gets it together and pitches more like he did for team USA this past summer, then we won't be having this conversation.

The talented LSU lineup was behind him. He was facing our second string bats.

Right, as if they never alternate and allow their pitchers to face all of the hitters.
And even if that were the case, he STILL outperformed the other pitchers. You can try to split as many hairs, or invent as many reasons as you want, but it's really not rocket science to figure out how talented he is. I realize he needs to be tested in a meaningful game. He's going to get that chance... Tomorrow. If he's ready enough to start on Saturday right now, I think that makes my point about what he has shown the coaches.

You may be right, but I need to see Marceaux first. I do believe Hess belongs back in the pen. I suspect we have 3 guys who are better options as starters. We can't play from behind all season like we did last year.

It is okay to let the kid pitch at least a single college inning before we anoint him.

No its not ell, you are either on this train now or you arent
Posted on 2/16/19 at 12:04 am to josh336
Fine. Pitch him Friday next week.

Hess is the friday starter rest of the year. Fwiw, i think he’ll be better

Please, my read my comment again, and tell me how and where I anointed him. Don't lump me in with the crowd who are mad that he wasn't starting tonight. I just think that he will be the guy at some point this year, on Fridays. Some guys are talented enough that it's ok to make bold predictions.
If I'm wrong, who's it going to hurt?

Hess is straight garbage

You got 37 upvotes from other people who overreact to 1st game of season and before even seeing Marceaux pitch a college game....

Paul Mainieri is not just giving out a starting role to get him back to school. We've had kids leave the program that in all likelihood were going to start, but Mainieri wouldn't guarantee them to start. Perhaps the plan is to move Marceaux in the Friday spot later on. Perhaps Mainieri sees something in Hess and thinks he can excel there.
