going forward i'd much rather just see man to man press vs this zone crap , and if we lose the game that way, so be it

let our athletes be athletes

Not very smart then. You have to be able to do both. You can’t play press man all the time, the qb will just take off running

ya not 100% of the snaps but majority of the game.

everytime we're in zone im just hoping its not a gain for 10 yards but a significant chuck of yards will be gained regardless

These guys think they have it all figured out and know better than an sec defensive coordinator

To be fair, most realized that playing prevent was not the move

play off man, off man blitz, man press, man press blitz, zone blitz, Cb and safety blitzes, overload blitzes, use a spy at times and DE contain. mix it up. also use some combo coverage. middle zone /outside man, etc.

our cover 2 zones suck as we fail to limit big yards and keep it underneath. we may need more cover 3 or tampa 2. plus our players do not all do well in zones or their zone responsibilities. see jimcoily at ole miss and that guy on left side for 2 pointer at UK. right side was in man and dude on left was in zone and WR was wide open if Qb wanted to throw insteads of run. nfw did baker want him in zone in that situation.

As long as you have a spy for a running QB I agree. These kids grow up playing man to man and they just don’t have enough time to teach more complex zone concepts in college. There are always break downs passing guys off in Baker’s zone defense.

Both is the answer. It's the execution and situational choices that have to get better.

No excuse to not have a QB spy on the 2 pt conversion. Unless he called one and the player missed the assignment.

There are times when it is smart to play zone and all teams do it. My problem we are always a poor zone team. We need to teach and develop our players to learn it and get good at zone. If that means subbing different guys in or hiring extra coaches that can teach it then so be it.

Pressure and disguise are the keys to playing effective zone defense. Even if it’s rushing 4, you have to be able to stunt, loop, exchange with LBs, or have someone who can beat a double team to get home.

Also, if you can fool a QB into thinking man or Cover 2 instead of 3 pre-snap, you can create a mistake and a chance for an interception.

Princewell is our only consistently effective pass rusher vs good SEC teams, but Geralds is showing flashes. But we generally have to send 5+ to make an impact.

We haven’t been good at disguising coverages. And that seems to get worse when we play conservative zone on these end of game drives. Any competent QB can beat that if he isn’t under pressure.
