Mainieri: Stevenson in CF is "fairly permanent"

I didn't think Sciambra was doing a poor job.

I have enjoyed the competition in the outfield, but I am ready for some permanence.

I do have a reassured feeling that if someone gets hurt, we have very formidable backups that can step up.

My only problem with Rhymes at DH is it's a very different position. I have read a lot of DH's say it is harder to play DH than most think. You cannot pick yourself up after a bad at bat. You just go back to the bench and sit there. Really tough to stay upbeat and warm.

I think at the plate he's really scuffling. And then he misplaced that ball on sunday. as soon as he did that, then struck out on 3 pitches PM yanked him.

Who is faster? Hitting seems to be about the same.

Stevenson still has to prove he can hit consistently against SEC pitching, rather than Tulane midweek pitching, but he is solid defensively and has more upside than Sciambra

DH is still up for grabs with a lot of players in play, Tyler Moore, McMullen, Sciambra, Chinea.

Good thing is if someone starts slumping there's players good enough to step in

one of my gripes with Javi is that he is inexperienced for what we're asking him to do. Offensive production right now is great, so he's obviously doing something right. But helping guys work through the mental side of a slump is a little tougher, but just as important as helping them hone their technique and approach. I'm not saying Javi can't do that, just that he doesn't have a lot of experience doing that.

Learned a new word today.

Project, i'm sure you do not remember, but during the start of the season your comments convinced me that speed was the essential element lacking last year that caused us to hit into so many double plays. I know how to quanitify speed on defense, but i didn't really think about the crucial role it plays in offense because it's not that easy to measure. I think it's made all the difference this year, and you are the poster who pointed that out to me, so thanks. I think speed is why Stevenson got the nod over CS (although CS is not slow; just not as fast).
