Well considering we have gone to the CWS every other year the past 6 years
“wait till next year” is not something to laugh at

Or try to give it a go and gut it out. It's not an elbow, which you have to be more careful with to avoid a UCL tear.

But shoulder soreness could be a sign of concern about the rotator cuff.

Is there even a small chance Paul is using a little gamesmanship here and Hilliard walks out there on Sunday?

Next man up! Crazy that 3 of our best starters are out. If we win the first two, somehow, maybe it was meant to be.

It isnt a big deal, but maybe throwing a freshman 2 days earlier than normal is what caused his arm to fatigue?

What causes him arm fatigue is that he's a 150 lb (at best) guy who throws a lot of breaking stuff which wears on an arm. He's thrown way more than he did last year. If he would have had one or two more days rest, I'm not sure it makes a huge difference. Or any difference.

He needs to spend the offseason adding weight and getting stronger.

If he's pitched his last game as a freshman, mad props to him. Great, great freshman season.

We need Bush to give us a Brett Laxton 93 CWS championship like performance on Friday.

Studies have shown this to be totally false. Fastballs actually put more torque on the elbow.

Except everything PM has discussed has been based on his arm, not his elbow.

Agree with you about fastballs and the elbow, but this is not the issue here.

Many times it’s things like this that helps a team...not saying most of the time...but this can bring a team together..get them focused. It can also give the other team a false sense of security. Let’s see how this plays out

I think it's a pretty safe assumption that pitching 1 game on 4 days rest instead of 6 isn't what made his arm fatigued.

But him throwing breaking balls has nothing to do with it.

He could throw nothing but fastballs for the same amount of pitches and still have arm fatigue.

Correct
quote:

When a muscle or tendon is overworked, it can become inflamed. The rotator cuff is frequently irritated in throwers, resulting in tendinitis. Early symptoms include pain that radiates from the front of the shoulder to the side of the arm. ... Most tears in throwing athletes occur in the supraspinatus tendon.

Listen, I don't think it's fair to assume that pitching Hilliard on 4 days rest caused him harm. It's MUCH more likely that this is a culmination of a season in which he pitched a lot more than he ever has.

However, I think it's wrong to simply label this as "fatigue". Based on the descriptions of his pain, and the comments from people who seemed to know, this is inflammation around the rotator cuff in the shoulder. Perhaps that is a result of "fatigued" muscles, but the guy has a rotator cuff issue (even if it will resolve itself with rest).

Please correct me if I'm wrong. But, just like I don't think it's reasonable to start throwing blame around, I also don't think it's reasonable to soften the blow by calling it fatigue.
