Good coach. Bad voice.

9 tournaments a decade?
LSU should never not make the postseason tournament.
LSU should never not make the postseason tournament.

Yea i agree, but if all those other goals are met, one odd season of getting snubbed wouldn't ruin the decade. That being said, the memory of 2011 still makes me wanna vomit almost as much as the sunday SB game.

SR is disappointing when you put more time, money, resources than anyone else.

Why don't we make him earn the extension instead of just handing it over before the season?
Well, jackass -- if you read the press release, I believe the administration BELIEVES he has "earned the extension"...
Geeze -- you "LSU didn't win every game" or "... but we lost to a team we "should" beat..." people piss me off.
Paul Mainieri has run a super clean, competitive program... his on the field accomplishments are noteworthy in any league... and like football --- LSU plays in the most competitive conference in the country. Recently the SEC East has had the upper hand in winning NATIONAL Championships.... but I think going back to 2009 an SEC team has been every final series, except 1 -- from memory - so don't blast me if there was a second one.
The man HAS earned an extension --- which keeps the integrity of the program in place.
If I'm betting -- my money is on YES, LSU will win the SEC no less than 2X and appear in the CWS at least 2X during the term of Coach's contract ---- that's 2 SEC Championships and 2 CWS appearances in the next 5 years.... whether we win the National Championship or not is irrelevant -- that is SOLID performance on the field. And if the Academic Honors and community service recognition continues I'd extend him again in 2 - 3 years.

At least they didn't give him a raise. Does anyone know when his contract was up before the extension?

id switch the 9 post season to ten. no reason for LSU baseball to ever be sitting at home

Ole Joe sure is throwing around TAF money like he had been elected the King of Bacchus. IMO, he is the weak link here. Somebody needs to send him one of those cards out of the airline magazines for attending one of those successful negotiation seminars. He rolls over easier for his coaches agents and the SEC than a $20 whore.

Elder Tiger said it right on. He is living on 2009.

What's the need to extend him this long? Is he looking on moving anywhere else? I doubt it. He's got it freakin made here at LSU. No school offers as much attention and money to baseball as we do. I don't really get this, but whatever. I want to see Omaha soon with my Tigers in attendance.
This. There are about 10 schools in the country that even remotely care about college baseball and LSU is, at least for now, still atop that list.
This is still the premiere job in college baseball. He ain't lookin' to go anywhere, he knows where he is.

I know it's not Omaha, but we did win the SEC last season. The toughest conference by far. That's nothing to ignore. Better than getting to Omaha and coming home with nothing.

I guess it's splitting hairs with some fans, but I disagree. In college baseball, it's all about the postseason.
I remember when Vandy won the SEC outright years ago with David Price. They were one of the most impressive SEC teams I can remember in recent memory. But they lose at home in their regional to like fuggin Michigan.
I would rather finish 3-5 in the SEC and make it to Omaha than finish 1st in the SEC and lost a SR at home any and every season.

We better be playing more than 8 sec games!!!

I don't have enough in-depth knowledge about college baseball today to form an opinion on our recent performances.
But the offense last season was, at times, very frustrating to watch.
