Whats not about the best team? The SEC Championship? Its about the best team in the division?

If I were an undefeated team in a power 5 conference I would opt out of the conference championship. There is nothing to gain by playing in it.

Is this like LSU demanding to play only night games?

It's not like you have a choice.

I get the idea. But if conference championships don’t matter, why have them.

Why have conferences at all. Just have the power 5 conferences schedule 12 games and then have the committee’s popularity contest.

If they don’t natter, then why is Georgia in and Auburn out? It’s stupid to say they don’t.

It’s sickening you can sit at home championship week and get in.

Lots of 1 loss teams risk a 2nd loss, even an embarrassing loss like say Miami.. but Alabama gets to just sit back.

The eye test is bullshite.

With over 100 FCS teams (or whatever D1 is called now) it is impossible to tell who is better than who.

That’s why we have conferences and divisions within conferences. To give something objective.

If that means nothing why have them at all.

Conference championship should be an absolute criteria to get into the playoff. If you aren’t the best in your conference (or even your division within the conference) you should not play in the NATIONAL tournament.

Conference championships matter. But so does winning. Two losses will be held against you, especially bad losses like OSU's. I see nothing wrong with judging a team on its entire season and not just one game, even if it is a championship game.

Here is a question: Bama beats Auburn, Georgia beats Bama by the same score they beat Auburn, does Bama still make the play-offs?

If they didn't play conference championship games Wisconsin and Auburn would have been in. They are penalized for playing an extra game.

Conference Championships should be the quarterfinals in a playoff format.

.... AGREE...every other sport does it...they have wildcard playoffs....3rd place teams don’t just sit home waiting on others to play......why does college football?...

They'll never get rid of them because $$$. But when it comes down to it, yeah it kinda sucks that they're meaningless. They get you auto bids in every other league at every level and every sport that has them, except for CFB.

Wisky disagrees with him. Miami does, too. If they had won their games they would have been in. They do matter.
