Has anyone ever turned that much down before?

well maybe not that dollar amount, but this is the 3rd time a #1 overall pick didn't sign. Also JD Drew turned down 2.6 million as the #2 overall pick by the Phillies in 1997 because he wanted 10 million. He played in an independent league and entered the draft the following year and was drafted 5th and got 7 million.

So the MRI that revealed it was just an etch a sketch drawing by the Astros or something?
He's saying it's just a report about arm issues. "Sources" are saying UCL and even others are saying "small UCL". Then doctors who don't have knowledge of the situation are claiming that small UCL had everything to do with his 97 mph fb.

Yep, you nailed it.

Well, what is it then? Literally no one has said he has a normal UCL.

Do you think MLB would allow one of its writers to specifically mention it involves his UCL if it didn't involve his UCL, and then post the story on their website?

I think someone said it did. I'm not disputing that. But that doesn't mean it's not hearsay. It probably is his UCL. But I don't believe anything I've read about the specifics. "small" "explains his velocity" "going to be a real problem in just a couple years". That's all BS.

I didn't mention anything about how it affects him now or how it will affect him in the future, just that it is a defect. His own advisor didn't even go on record to say it is normal, and had every opportunity to do so while he was blasting everything else.

Would just like to take this moment to point out that we got Marshall AND Deichmann.

I honestly did not think this would happen in the days before the draft. I'm so fricking stoked for next February.

just that it is a defect.
Here's what I know. It's been reported that his UCL has an issue. Fine. That's repairable. Thousands of pitchers have successfully come back from the surgery. It's almost routine. But apparently, according to reports, it may not be that simple because it may be that "defect" that causes him to throw hard.

I call bullshite. I've had the surgery. We were given a ton of information, and I did a shite ton of research. And part of that was the mechanics of the elbow (which interested me since at the time I was a physics major hoping to go into engineering). Fixing the UCL, if necessary, would not have negatively affected his velocity. The UCL is replaced completely. If the defect ever came into play, TJ would have fixed it, he would have come back just fine like the other 90% of pitchers. And almost all of the 10% who fail make a mistake in the rehab process.

This makes me believe it's not exactly what we've been hearing. The Astros shouldn't be this scared if it was something this simple.

Then why wouldn't the Astros sign him? Mac Marshall is good, but he is still a 5-10 round talent. You don't blow the overall #1 pick going after a 7th round talent. The Astros obviously know more than what's been let out or they wouldn't have pulled the 6.5 million offer. It doesn't make any sense.
