I'm not sure of all the rules, but teams get compensation picks the next year if their drafted players don't sign. I read that the Astros would get #2 as compensation, so that must be a guarantee pick if they don't sign #1 this year.

Yeah. Aiken's slot is 7.9. Nix gets 1.5. Aiken gets 5. That leaves 1.4 plus Nix's slot $ plus another 5% before they get really penalized.

So if Aiken gets 5 and Nix gets 1.5, that leaves less than 1.5 left? Or is there enough leftover from what Nix and Mac are slotted?
