Maineri wouldn't say things like that unless the Marshall family gave him evry reason to be that confident

made me chuckle IRL

Just to clarify for him, you're laughing at him.

Shame is people will only focus on him and not the other great players we have coming in. But that's just the way it goes.

Who is to blame about this is Mainieri popping off the media about retaining all these kids 3 different times.

How has Mainieri impacted this situation at all?

quote:

"Mac sure sounds and acts like he wants to be at LSU," Mainieri said. "But if he doesn't want to close the door completely, I can't blame him because Houston can come to him with a large sum of money.

"Every time I've spoken to him this summer, he seems to be pretty happy. I hear that he has been working hard and bonding with his teammates. He even told me he can't wait until Friday."

quote:

"There's no guarantee, but maybe Mac Marshall will be our next ace," Mainieri said matter-of-factly. "He's got to work for it but if he does and he winds up there, he's got a great chance to follow in those footsteps."

I still remember that 18 inning bullshite game. I hope Berkman dies a slow death.

You're right. We will still compete at a high level with this recruiting class, but Mac would take us to the next level. Will always be a woulda coulda shoulda unless this class brings in a national championship.

Well, he is the focus for a reason. Come fall ball, there will be some what if talk, but we'll have the guys who are here to talk about and break down.

I agree with that, but Marshall is the major signing risk at this point, so it's natural to focus on him right now.

Yeah, realistically we never thought we even had this good of a chance of keeping him prior to the draft...and were still really excited about the class anyway.

I was more talking about the people on the Rant, not us Boxtards.

He made those statements recently after talking up 11 for 12 a few times already. It wasn't long after we were booted from the regional. He was trying to keep things positive

There is no need to make this comment.

I don't think ANY coach in college baseball is making comments like this after the kid was drafted and "during" negotiations.

And by the time Mac is in the majors Astros could very well be solid.

Plus who cares about living out your boyhood dream of making it to the big leagues?

Nice find.

I still think it's plenty valid to assume they've given Maineri reason to be confident. I know Maineri has been very outspoken about his frustration with the draft in the past, but I don't recall him elaborating so much on toss-up recruits.

None of us know what's been said, so laugh all you want.

From an LSU student's perspective, I am just in awe at how these kids turn down playing here. They get excellent perks, tons of poon, a minor league facility to play in, and there's a lot of great majors to go into here. it just makes so much sense that it blows my mind

Us diehards will be happy with the incoming class after this dies down. Give it a few days.

By the time the countdown thread starts, ill be as hard as a diamond in an icestorm about this team

Money talks, especially to 17-18 year old kids.
