Im sure Verne is just really upset about his own name...

Me too. Whats wrong with Louisiana State and why should it offend anyone?

I think he was referring to the fact that they are referred to as "Florida State" and not "Florida State University."
When people say, "Where did you go to school?" the answer is not "Ohio State University" it is simply "Ohio State."
Same with LSU

Yes, I never tell people I went to Louisiana State. I say LSU. It doesn't bother me much when Verne says it bc I always seem to notice it after we do something good.
I do 100% agree with the earlier post that we should be referred to as the "fighting tigers". I don't recall any other school that can claim that, and I like the history and uniqueness about it. Also, I don't like there being so many tiger mascots in college. The "fighting" adds some distinction, and I personally like the sound of it.
Nice thread topic btw.

I agree as well. It differentiates us from other schools calling themselves tigers and its just out and out our proper name.
LSU would have to mount a campaign to get the networks on board but its one I think is worth the effort.
We are the Fighting Tigers.

I prefer LSU for most interactions, but I agree with this. He says it in a very respectful upbeat way I think.

He obviously is saying it that way on purpose, for what reason, I don't know. He is the only person that uses that name. Some use Louisiana State University, but most use LSU. So why can't Verne use one of the two that everybody else uses.
I always thought it was possible that he didn't care for LSU in some way. This is just my opinion, but it stems from when LSU has a great play to take the lead in a big game and Verne will simply say something like "LSU has regained the lead" with no emotion almost like he was disappointed. It may just be my dislike for him, but I don't think I am imagining it.

I distinctly recall that the 1981 FF basketball team wore jerseys that had "Louisiana State" on the front. I had a hoodie from that era as well with the same thing.

Don't care. Vern can call LSU anything he wants to...except maybe "Those a**holes".

Not really, but obviously enough to post.

I agree.

I don't have a serious problem with this practice.

LSU.
UCLA isn't called University of California Los Angeles during broadcasts of their games.

we specifically advise the media to refer to us as Louisiana or UL, and it doesn't happen always (obviously) people will say whatever they feel like
That's because no one outside of Lafayette is buying that line of bullshite for a second.

First off, how is this an issue?
Secondly, I like the Louisiana State name...it puts emphasis on Louisiana. What's wrong with that? It sounds cool, too. LOUISIANA STATE!
LSU is said a lot...all the time...why is it a big deal if one guy says the long (sans University) version?
I never even noticed he said that because that how much of a non-issue it is.

I'm fine with either...but if you want Fighting Tigers to be used, then I prefer LSU...
The Louisiana State University Fighting Tigers just takes too long to say...
Verne: "Good afternoon and welcome to the SEC on CBS...today's matchup is between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Louisiana State University Fighting Tigers...whooooo...I'm winded. Time for a commercial break"...DAAAAAA DA DA DAAAAA (CBS Theme)

I like it when he says Louisiana State! Its harsher and more BOOYAH! At least the way he adds emphasis while saying it.
