Seemed like 10 years ago, you had 2-3 guys who could hit 95. Seemed like most college pitchers threw 87-93. Tons of pitchers hitting 95+ now, at least it seems. Has this been a growing trend of college pitchers being able to throw harder, than they were 10 years ago?

Trackman is a more accurate way to measure velocity plus everything is max effort. Max effort equals less innings pitched. Skenes throwing 101 in the seventh is what everyone wants to be but very very few can do.

It is about command of 3-4 pitches that can be thrown at any time. That allows pitching frontwards and backwards.

Give me a guy throwing 93 that can do that.

Cool your early expectations on Schmidt. Schmidt was hit hard in the fall.

He needs better location...not more velo.

Is this the year that the mythical Noot is finally healthy enough to contribute??

He is healthy, not sure what his role will be. He was a bit of a novelty in the class 3 years ago before we realized Jay Johnson was going to turn LSU into an MLB pitching factory. Noot is just kind of a guy on the staff now.

Noot is still a work in progress.

The freshmen pitchers will have to adjust to the strike zone. If they do that well and somewhat quickly we will be really good. The strike zone changes from HS to college and they won’t dominate with the fastball in college unless it carries like Ty Floyd’s fastball.
The biggest thing for them will be throwing pitches other than fastballs for strikes! If they can mix it up and be ahead in the count this team will benefit greatly.
I do realize this the scenario for all pitchers, but the freshmen have the bigger adjustment. Schmidt, Evans and Rizy can really, really make this team elite if they settle in early and stay healthy.

I’m very much looking forward to watching 6’8 Shores and 6’9 Rizy throw gas. Going to be a spectacle with their size

there were a couple time where we went from like Paul Gervaise to Sammy Dutton or vise versa and it’s hilarious to see the difference in the screen

Man Jay and the staff seem to love Casan Evans. And what they talk about is his control. With numbers like that plus his control, we may have something special!

I doubt he is wearing people out with the curveball in the fall….

Agree 100%.
Most SEC hitters can hit 95 MPH four seamers when they know it is coming.

It’s amazing the velo you see across all levels of baseball these days

FIFY.
It's amazing the velocities across nearly the entire LSU pitching staff. OTOH, velocities are up all across baseball, including high school baseball and 2nd tier college baseball teams. Of course, w/ LSU being a "blue blood" of college baseball, they get more than their fair share of HS and transfer guys who thow in the 90's. Improved training, coaching, technology and strength/conditioning have impacted baseball pitchers at all levels, from HS to professional. Of course, such high velocities come at a price.....increased incident of Tommy John surgery at increasingly younger ages. Regardless, I'm happy to see LSU w/ so many hard throwers, hoping that they can also develop control and other pitches.

And any D-2 hitter can hit 92 when they know it’s coming

I agree, but after Primeaux’s showing in the cape & seeing Ware this fall, I like the quality of the group.

I want to see Cooper Williams in more favorable situations (Jay threw a bunch of RH at him when I saw him get tagged one scrimmage). But his stuff looks really good for a young player.

I we assume Anderson starts & you have 3 guys in the pen, you may be ok with no injuries.

Greg Maddox and Randy Jones say hi. Almost everyone throws hard today. It’s about location and movement.

exactly. For a reason.

Greg Maddux was elite when he was throwing 92-94 and the umpires had no strike zone standards.

I also don't take anyone seriously when they use all-time-greats for comparisons like this. Don't use extreme outliers to fit other players into your box.
