I remember a pretty funny e-mail that was being sent by LSU faithful that was a mock of the PETA E-mail after Mike V passed away, may he rest in peace.

For the life of me I can not find a copy.

Any other background about it you'd like to share would also be appreciate.

I still remember when they tried to sue the med school in Nola after some lab animals were left during Katrina.
I sent them a nice email about how I didn't appreciate frivolous law suits in the wake of such an unappreciated circumstance.
I got nothing but a pre formatted auto response email.

Yea, I was mad.

They currently actually have a Facebook Page dedicated to "freeing" Mike from LSU.

PETA has run themselves out of rational people's consideration with their extreme views. However there is a much more dangerous group with similar goals but hiding behind a more rational approach and with a generally accepted name. Humane Society of the United States, HSUS, makes you think they are all about dog and cat shelters when in fact it is the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals that is the group most responsible for Animal Sheltering and investigation of true cruelty. Just thought I'd throw that out there. If you want to give to a responsible group give to SPCA not HSUS

its not a problem its just an annoyance

They protest every time mike comes into the spotlight then dont do anything once the hype dies down. They always go after famous animals but ignore actually cruelty cases

Let's think about this freeing Mike BS that PETA so desperately wants. Mike has never lived in the wild. Mike has never had to hunt for food. Mike has had vet services his entire life. If mike was released back into the wild he would die within a year because the instincts that he would have developed from being in the wild are not there. Besides there is verifiable proof that the Tigers that LSU has had as mascots over the years have lived far longer than tigers in the wild. Hell that cat has it better than most humans. He wakes up, he gets fed, he takes a swim, he takes a nap repeat process. He does this while living in a multimillion dollar environment which was approved by the humane society. Note to PETA, please shut up, when you try to say that Mike is treated poorly you sound like a group of people looking for a cause to fight against. There are plenty of good causes out there one is coming up in November, you can fight for that whichever side of the isle you are on. Our economy sucks, unemployment is at a all time high. You could be fighting to change this. Leave LSU and Mike alone.

Mike lives better than 99% of the US giving him "equal treatment" would be a step back

A few years ago PETA was raising hell and trying to keep LSU from getting a new Mike. I sent them numerous emails saying that if they felt so strongly about their cause they should be more vocal about it. I invited them again and again to come to a home football and share their views with the fans. Express their opinions and convince us that replacing Mike would be wrong. I never did get a response, hmmmm I wonder why hahaha.

Does PETA actually help animals that are neglected and abused? Seems to me all they really do is find things to bitch about, but don't actually do anything.

That about sums up what they do. They are the green peace for the animal kingdom. Rarely do the ever realize the consequences of their actions or what they are suggesting.

"freeing" him from what exactly? mike lives in a habitat that puts most zoos to shame and has it all to himself. He has top notch vets looking after him and gets treated like a king by 90,000+ on gamedays in BR. That sounds like a pretty good lifestyle for a species that is battling extinction
