phantom facemask call

It was a facemask.

The problem is the play should have been blown dead for a false start.

2011 Oregon could also be in contention for Miles. HUGE build up for the game, #3 Oregon vs. #4 LSU, everyone touting Oregon's high-powered offense. LSU proceeded to blow the wheels off of them taking a 30-13 lead through the fourth quarter, ultimately winning 40-27, with Oregon scoring its last TD against backups with like 10 seconds left in the game. Set the tone for the entire 2011 season that would be the GOAT CFB season but for 1/9/12.
Oregon?

Oregon?

If you're going to say Oregon, then I respond with Arkansas, the second time in 2011 in which we played a team ranked #3.

#3 Arkansas

Following Oklahoma State’s upset loss to Iowa State, here were the top three in the BCS standings heading into Thanksgiving weekend.

1. LSU (11-0)
2. Alabama (10-1)
3. Arkansas (10-1)

If LSU were to beat Arkansas (and then also Georgia in the SEC title game), it would all but clinch a BCS title game rematch with Alabama. If Arkansas beat LSU, however, Bama and Arkansas are 1-2.

All of the Tigers 2011 accomplishments looked to be in doubt when Arkansas went up 14-0 with 12:11 left in the first half. Arkansas linebacker Alonzo Highsmith picked up a fumble by LSU running back Michael Ford and returned 47 yards for a touchdown.

The Tigers bounced back in a big way, scoring 21 points in a span of 4:16 including a 6-yard touchdown run by running back Kenny Hilliard, a 92-yard punt return by Tyrann Mathieu that tied the game, and a 9-yard touchdown catch by Russell Shepard from quarterback Jordan Jefferson.

In short, after facing its largest deficit of the season, #1 LSU shrugged its shoulders then shredded #3 Arkansas, 41-17. It was the largest margin over a top-5 team in school history.

Against Oregon, LSU's QB completed 45% of his passes for less than 100 yards passing. His QB rating was under 100. Oregon was the 88th ranked passing defense.

Against Arkansas, LSU's QB completed 62% of his passes for over 200 yards passing. He also rushed for 53 yards in LSU's most prolific offensive performance in 2011. LSU gained 494 yards. Arkansas had the 24th ranked passing defense.

I'm too young for McClendon. DiNardo and Orgeron are not really debatable at this point ('97 Florida and '18 Georgia).

For Saban, I personally choose '00 Tennessee because we were so down as a program at that point. Several of the '01 and '03 games are up there too.

For Miles, '07 Florida is probably it. '07 Virginia Tech and a lot of the 2011 games are up there too.

I think we'll look back at the 2017 comeback Auburn win in TS as the pivotal game in Orgeron's early career.

If LSU loses that game in the fashion that the early going suggested we would, I don't think he ever gets the chance to break through so much of the fans' still-raging negativity and overwhelming doubt that marked his earliest days.

It bought him much-needed time.

So far, so good. . .

1966 Cotton Bowl - Coach Mac
Arnsparger has better wins than Coaches not named DIETZEL , Miles, Mac or Saban. In fact, I wouldn’t even include the rest of them.

5. UGA 2018 Orgeron

1. Sure - I'm too young to know.
2. Agreed - was an amazing game just to lose to Ole Miss the next week
3. Either OU or the SEC championship game where Mauck came in and started tearing it up by scrambling
4. nah - AU 2007... or UF / Alabama 2010 ... games with trick plays in them were his specialty gotta give him one of those
5. I'm not TRYING to be critical - but I think that the UGA game is the only eligible game to date. Hopefully that'll change after November this year.... actually i take this back - you could argue that mizzou 16 game was huge for Ed O.

Dominance don’t forget about Miles in the peach bowl against Miami. We beat them like 40-3 or something.

Notre Dame 1971 was a professional team. The most powerful LSU ever faced.

I'm gonna go with that Bama win 20-10.

Good thread.

Think about this. There are a ton of Miles games and Saban games to choose from. We have been a fortunate fan base the last 15 years or so.

The Irish finished 8-2 that year. I believe that USC 1979, who finished 11-0-1 and ranked #2 probably was a better team overall, and that team furnished scads of NFL players.

It’s hard for me to fathom a team like Notre Dame being that good. It’s been so damn long. Any time they get hyped, they get demolished.

That auburnt game was the Magic is back game, shame dinardo could not sustain success. The emotional Win in 97 against florsux, then the egg laying against Ole miss

Saban to me was Alabama 2000. 31 years of misery my dad went through and then they give them the ball for no reason! First instant replay used.
Dinardo auburn 1996. So much craziness.
Miles 2005 bama. Bama is heralded as being back and undefeated, Katrina, what a game.
I wasn’t around for maclendon but I’d say 1979 usc.
Coach o I think it’s coming in November this year!
