I went JUCO out of high school because back then they had what's called the "draft and follow". Basically I was drafted out of high school by the pirates and offered a signing bonus (which I rejected) and at the time the team drafting you had your rights for a year..so you could basically go the juco route and try and make more $. If you went D1 back then you forfeited that right for 3 years. The draft and follow is long gone due to changes in amateur draft now

To answer your 2nd question..in my opinion injuries. People forget I totally destroyed my left knee right out of the gate after LSU, and I missed almost a year and a half. Think about that in terms of progression, development, etc and how young guys are now in the big leagues, especially your 1st rounders. I was fortunate enough to keep hitting and grind my way to the big leagues after that devasting injury, which I am damn proud of, but I was never the same player after that. I definitely lost a step or two (remember I played almost 11 years of pro ball after on a surgically replaced knee basically) and that will catch up to you, especially when playing on metal spikes..but I could always hit. You pile on trying to play on a bum knee and soon your hamstring goes, your shoulder etc because you overcompensate for a lot of things...so in a nutshell injuries in my opinion really doomed me from the outset

97 was the first LSU baseball team I was old enough to pay attention to and remember. (Perfect timing since I missed 96 right?) Good time to start watching as a 6 year old with how y’all mashed. Y’all were an awesome team.

Brandon, why did you go JUCO out of HS school? any particular reason?
also in your opinion, what kept you from breaking through in the show? if i recall you had excellent minor league numbers
Really good questions. I think you and I have gone back and forth on it before, but TD has the potential to be Barstool/EDSBS when it comes to content. They really could dominate SEC media and even tap into national sports media with the right approach.
Brandon, thanks for offering your POV and being straight up about it. It's so much different to hear perspectives from someone who lived it vs the speculations fans often create. I'll throw a curveball in here, favorite spot to go out during the off season back then?

When Danny Higgins lead off the National Championship game with a homer I thought, “Okay, we got the homer in every game stat knocked out, now let’s just focus on winning the national championship.”
I was there and this was my exact thought as well.

Your moonshot over CF wall at Baum Stadium still hasn't landed.

Awesome to hear man. I may run into you at The Box. I normally sit behind the plate at the top next to a few of the scouts
