Haven’t won since 2008.

1/30 since Shaver took over in 2005. Not exactly the standard.

But the women's side has 25 national titles. Easily crushing every other lsu program in lsus history.

So the OP isn't really rt.

We didn't lose to Florida St due to lack of experience, not sure I'm following that part.

I’m sure she’s referring to the freshmen like Pleasants, Briggs, etc. Here’s her exact quote from the Advocate article. Frankly, it sounds like excuse making. They could have and should have won that series.

quote:

“They (FSU) played five kids in the lineup that won a (2018) national championship; I played five kids that played their first SEC game this year,” an emotional Torina said after the game. “It’s a huge difference. This game is terrible to lose right now; it feels horrible. Our team is talented, but they won’t lose this game again. They grew up a lot, they learned a lot they experienced a lot. They’re going to start next season completely different: confident, battle-tested, completely prepared.”

Definitely sounds like she thinks no changes in staff are needed—that “experience” was the only difference. And Kleinpeter obviously is going along with the Torina narrative. He also blames that blown play at second solely on Pleasants—no mention of Tidwell.

Advocate Article

Despite Beth’s bluster, without a change in staff/philosophy, this team will be right back in the same cycle next season. Around .500 in SEC. Helpless against real WCWS contenders in and out of conference. Win Regional against inferior pitching. Lose Super. Rinse. Repeat.

Yikes, wasn’t this gruesome schedule suppose to make them battle tested for post season? We played the most difficult schedule on paper in over a decade and now we weren’t prepared for post season?

I love Beth but that is not why we lost the game. Bad defense by Tidwell and Cummins led to the game tying run. Tidwell and Cummins are basically juniors and have been at LSU for three years. Lack of experience is not why they botched making routine softball plays (covering 2B or catching strikes).

The offense struggling against super regional/CWS pitching annually isn’t a new thing either. Our very last super in 2019 vs Minnesota was a senior heavy team and we scored 3 run in two games!!!

They have a lot of holes on offense to address as we lose Andrew’s and Doyle next year with only maybe 2-3 truly proven bats in the lineup next year. I’d love to include Sunseri but she worked her way down all the way to a .230 BA . You also have kids like Savannah Stewart who were integral part of the team as a freshmen who regress and rarely plays anymore.

I seriously cannot believe he blamed that play on Pleasants. Terrific journalism

I think he knew better but that was on purpose to fit his story rubber-stamping Beth’s “experience” narrative.

Pleasants is a freshman so blame the play that blew the game on a “freshman mistake” even though that narrative is bullshite.

I’m sure Kleinpeter knows that since it’s softball, most folks aren’t paying that much attention. Typical Baton Rouge media covering LSU sports—simply regurgitate the company line.

Torina did not blame Pleasants in the article I ready, the writer from the advocate was the one who said she botched that play.

I didn't watch the post game press conference unless she said it there.

Not sure yet but we usually compete in at least one high quality tournament in OOC play.

Have to disagree She said Pleasants was confused as to step on 2nd or flip to Tidwell Am not saying I agree with this because Tidwell was nowhere 2nd I read this in an article in Tiger Rag Kleinpeter only wrote what Torina said

I found the comment

quote:

“Pleasants is deciding whether to take it herself or throw it to Taylor and just didn’t make a good decision,” Torina said. “She’s a freshman and played lights out all year, arguably one of the best we’ll ever have with her career in front of her.”

I don't agree with that at all. Not sure how she singles out Pleasants but not the 2B who covered the bag late. Or Cummins dropping a strike over the plate for the run that tied it

That’s where she made the comments about the play Like I said Tidwell was nowhere near in a position to take a throw

Averaging almost one unearned run a game all season does not help. Critical mistakes in the field and base running errors kill the momentum in any game. In game coaching moves and strategy is what bothers me. Torina and her coaches all have experience, but do not exhibit urgency in games. I do not remember more than 3-4 hit and runs all season, not to mention any suicide squeezes. Many opportunities to advance runners were missed.

How many players have come into the program as top rated prospects but do not seem to reach their potential in four years. I know the girls work hard, but just wonder with different coaches if the track record would be different. Nine plus years is a long time to overcome issues.

The softball team played one of the toughest schedules in the country. I thought they would have been game tested come tournament time, but it did not happen. There are a couple of holes to fill with recruits or transfers. The roster will definitely be smaller next year post pandemic. Attrition will have to take place. There are some bit bats and a couple of game changing catchers in the transfer portal.

Thanks to Aliyah Andrews, Amanda Doyle, Maribeth Gorsuch, and Akiyah Thymes for wearing the Purple and Gold for the last five years.

Serious women’s sports fans will give a lot of rope before wanting something to happen to a coach’s job. It’s all about feels, excitement, and competing hard. Everyone is a winner. The same fans that saved Les’ job in 2015 and think Paul was doing a great job and don’t want him to leave.

Hopefully Woodward can root that mindset from our AD.
