it was a bad arse team, but they choked and got humiliated in the championship game. I just dont see how one could ever put that over this team assuming they win out. If the 2011 team wins the NC, that team and season goes down as the greatest ever no doubt!

Beating a most likely 8-4 auburn team at home by 3 with a true freshman qb?

Good chance Texas isn’t ranked by the end of the year.

Just because the 2011 lost the NC doesn’t make them a worse team.

Pretty much any sec team to win it all in the past ten years has a comparable resume.

Yeah yeah maybe I deserve that
just wasn’t thinking about the playoffs yet and the 2011 regular season will be hard to top

And yes Auburn could have 3-4 losses...but I assume your saying they lose to Georgia and Bama.

Not saying they will, just they could have 4 losses. They could finish 10-2 wouldn’t rule that out either. I do know if we beat Bama I will be a huge Auburn fan in the Iron Bowl

I have to disagree with that. Bama’s has some less that stellar resumes if you really look especially since they won twice while avoiding the SECCG. 2017 their 2 East opponents were Tenn and Vandy who were a combined 1-15 in the SEC or 0-14 excluding their game against each other, they didn’t play UGA, lost to Auburn, their best win was a 9-3 team that lost to Troy

best regular season for sure. But best season ever would definitely be this years Tiger's. Beating Oklahoma and Ohio State in the playoffs would be > beating Oregon and West Virginia in 2011. Plus a possible top 10 Auburn and Florida. Not to mention Bama. And another top ten (Florida or Georgia) in the SEC championship game. So that's at least 6 wins against top 10. (7 if you want to count Texas) 2011 had 3 (Bama, Oregon, and Arkansas who was #5).

Bama 2011:
- lost in OT by 3 to #1 lsu. Ended up dominating them in championship game who was debated as an all time great team. won every other game by at least 14 pts.
- @ #23 penn state
- #14 Arkansas
- @ #12 Florida
- @ #24 auburn
- @ #1 lsu

Bama 2017:
- definitely not that great a resume compared to other sec national champs. Still 3 wins over top 3 teams.

We're talking final rankings

Penn State 9-4 Unranked
Florida 7-6 unranked
Auburn 8-5 unranked (was not even ranked when Bama played them.

So in the regular season the only ranked team they beat was Arkansas who finished #5 and the rematch in the BCSCG against LSU. So 1 ranked team and a home loss to #1, which means they avoid the SECCG, that's the resume that got them in the BCS CG, so no, they didn't have a stellar resume. Their case rests on eye test and quality of loss.

How do you figure 3 top 3 wins? They beat UGA and Clemson who finished 4.
As long as there is a 4 team playoff who ever wins it will have to beat 2 top 4 teams

I'm so glad I was in boot camp for the 2011 NC and didn't have to witness that arse beating. Still haven't watched it, probably never will.

If they finish undefeated, with a Heisman winner, and crazy offensive numbers and possibly a few stat records; they may actually have an argument to be the best ever. Defense needs to keep improving probably.

So? They also played 11 games against what we now call P5 teams if LSU plays in the SECCG and 2 playoffs games we will play 12

It's harder to go 15-0 than it is to go 12-0 (especially in the SEC West), even if 3 of those games are non-P5. That's all I'm saying.

Theoretically but ya really think 95 Nebraska wouldn't have won a CCG and another bowl game if they had to play them? They beat #2 Florida by 38

Anyway the question was will it be the best CFB season ever. Right now I’ll stick with 95 Nebraska who as I mentioned beat 4 teams that finished the season in the top 10 by at least 3 scores including the NCG over #2 Fla by 38

Ohio State 1968 deserves consideration. Beat No. 1 Purdue, No. 4 Michigan (50-14) and No. 2 USC (with OJ Simpson) and No. 16 Michigan State. Had 11 All Americans and 6 first round NFL draft picks.
