as a former college student, not selling alcohol in the stadium simply results in fans pre gaming harder at the tailgate

90k people
Say half drank 45k
Say avg 3 beers @ $8 per beer that'll be $24 x 45k = 1.08 million
7 games x $1,080,000= $7.56 mill extra revenue, minus cost obv.

Actually has more to do with the Baptist population in gumpland that creates this whole problem.
My suggestion would be to move the capitol of the SEC to New Orleans, this way it would tend to be more laissez faire towards all of the issues, not only the beer...

I gotta admit, I'm all in with Joe on this one.
It makes so much sense. Studies show it actually curbs binge drinking, keeps people in the stadium longer, and makes massive amounts of revenue for the school.

I 110% disagree
And I 110% disagree with you. Why do people "binge" before the game as it is? Because they have no access inside other than whatever they smuggle in. When I was a younger fellow I would drink heavily outside then smuggle in a bag of whiskey and get absolutely stumbling around shitfaced. I don't drink liquor much these days but i DO still drink as much as I can put down prior to going in. If they sold beer inside, MANY people would just drink "normally" outside then continue drinking beer inside. It's no different than a concert or an NBA game for instance. People who truly want to blackout are going to do it anyway, whether it's beforehand, taking product inside, or buying inside. So rules aren't going to stop those people. But the majority of people would absolutley be less drunk overall if they could buy beer inside I truly believe that.

You’re going to assume half the stadium would AVERAGE 3 beers? ?? more like 1.2.

LSU could help promote local business as well by getting Tin Roof, Parish, Gnarley Barley, etc. involved.

More like all of the stadium, because it’s hardly more than half full lately.

Premium seats can have access to alcohol. Also, the upper decks aren't considered part of the stadium. Which is why LSU could get away with the recent conversion of the 1,500 general seats to the new Skyline Club.
Now 100% of the fans in the new SEZ expansion have access to alcohol.
You're not 100% accurate on this. The upper decks aren't considered part of the stadium for the purpose of TAF donations. Louisiana has a law that limits the percentage of seats that TAF can control, and the way the upper decks were constructed, TAF can control 100% of those seats plus the percent of the lower bowl stated in the law.
The Skyline club was part of an SEC pilot program with a few schools to study the idea of alcohol sales. Part of the program terms was that the seating area had to be isolated, and that's why they moved the visitors section and created the Skyline club.

$1.4mm of alcohol sales a game? I'll take the under on that by far.
you forget how money hungry LSU is. think $12 beer or more

AFAIK The Skyline Club at Tiger Stadium is the only such area in SEC football...
Will SEC follow NCAA and abolish its prohibition on alcohol?

Several unnamed member schools are blocking a path to overturn what many believe is an archaic policy. SEC bylaws restrict alcohol sales to private, controlled areas — in other words, premium seating.
But a gray area is emerging.
At least two SEC programs, Texas A&M and Auburn, opened this season a type of beer garden in their baseball stadiums, selling alcohol in sequestered areas removed from bleacher seating. LSU opened a football version of this in 2017 atop the south end zone, turning a 1,500-seat general admission area — with bleacher seating — into a designated space for alcohol sales that the school calls The Skyline Club.
Admittance into the spaces at Texas A&M and Auburn is $5. Tickets in the Skyline Club are $45 and up. The league approved plans for these newly created areas, as they met “the expectation on oversight, private area and controlled space for review

Fairly certain that these are reserved seats, no?

I've been several times. Actually stop and think for one second...do you truly think every other person (1 of every 2) inside with a ticket will be drinking? Of all the CHILDREN like 17 and younger, the 18-20 year olds with no fake or no interest, the grandmas and grandpas, the tee-totalers...do you honestly think that literally 50% of the ticketed people in the stadium will be buying alcohol?
There is simply no way whatsoever it would be that high. Zero.

LSU may have been the only school that could do this in their football stadium easily. I just got the info about it being an SEC pilot program from a TAF employee.
