Flights are high in addition to the date and the event. I imagine hotels would be pretty high too

Looking at alternative options for Thurs-Tues:
MSY- Burbank, CA $241 (4 hour drive to LV)
MSY- Fresno, CA $345 (6 hour drive to LV)
MSY- Reno, NV $367 (7 hour drive to LV)
MSY- Salt Lake City $205 (6 hour drive to LV)
MSY- Phoenix $205 (5 hour drive to LV)
These could all be pretty nice roadtrips with things to see/do along the way.

Surely it being a holiday weekend and a major football game has nothing to do with it . It’s almost like the airlines know . Shocking

See my post above yours. I found delta btr to las saturday to tuesday for $400. I'm gonna do that. But a nice scenic drive would be pretty bad arse too.

You're less than 3 months from the game. It is a holiday weekend in vegas and Tiger fans are going to go to the is game in large numbers. I said a long time ago to not wait on booking your flight

hotels were actually pretty reasonable if you booked a couple months ago when reservations opened
some deals can still be found but several are booked up

Is it any cheaper to fly into somewhere like St. George, Utah and drive over?

Are you flying into Burbank and driving to LV?

Booked NOLA to Phoenix from Thursday to Tuesday for less than $300 on SW. Arrive noon Thursday. Going to Grand Canyon & Sedona on the way up thurs/fri. Vegas FRI pm-Monday. Hoover Dam on the way back to Phoenix Monday. Fly home Tuesday.

I waited because I wasn’t sure if I was going to get tickets.

Kind of a silly excuse because flights and hotels can typically easily be changed and canceled with that much notice before the weekend. Plan like you’re getting tickets and if you don’t get them then cancel or turn that ticket to use for a different trip. The market isn’t going to wait on you to be ready for it.

AA nonstops from Miami have been steady since December until now; they are creeping up $40+ on a weekly basis. As some have mentioned, I booked my flights Thurs-Wed, and the fare saved justifies additional hotel nights.
