I think I'd give the LB advantage to LSU, based on a) we have a couple that didn't play last year (Tahj Jones, Welter) that should add experience, and b) because I'm ascribing to the view that the biggest improvement is from fresh to soph years, so our good freshmen should be outstanding soph s.

Same with improvement on DBs though that might be closer, and I'd say our RBs faced better defensive lines so agree there.

DL will have to prove it on the field - but they sound like they're ready to take on the mantle of the next great LSU Dline, so I'm betting (hoping!) they step up.

Thank you for a decent opinion, waiting for one this whole time

LB'ers of TCU didnt have alot of stats either which suggest they didnt play much last year either..

DB's seemed for experienced for TCU IMO.

RB's ours are definitely better and we will run down their throat.

DLine, as an LSU fan, i'm going to stick with what i see and say TCU has the advantage here.

Seriously? They're just as inexperienced as we are, maybe more, and not nearly as talented. DL is one of their question marks. Even though it is also somewhat one of ours, no way would I give TCU the edge in this area.

Also, for some reason you didn't mention the offensive lines, which is maybe the most important area of the team. LSU should be pretty solid there, while TCU has a ton of questions to answer.

Should be a great matchup!!!

I doubt it. About the only thing in their favor is that they have a really good secondary and our passing game is suspect. Their 4-2-5 scheme will play into our strong running game, and we should have the advantage at the line on both sides of the ball. I'll be surprised if this game stays close for very long.

My way too early prediction: LSU 38, TCU 14

a lot of tackles by their DB's is not a very favorable stat for them IMO

Their QB's are better than ours.

They complete more passes than they attempt.

TCU
Trevone Boykin (Freshman): 167 att, 292 comp, 2054 yards, 57.2%, 15 td 10 int.

Casey Pachall (Junior): 64 att, 97 comp, 948 yards, 66%, 10 td 1 int

cant forget they the TCU Freshman QB runs too, 143 running attempts.

Mett doesnt run so if he were, stats would be changed too.

I'd have to say you're reaching on the DL but we will know all after the game. Expect a typical outcome where we run it down their throat (yep superior DL and all) and then the reaction is that we did what we were supposed to do (ala Oregon). 4-2-5 = Jeremy Hill feasts

Agree with post that their DB's having a lot of tackles does not speak well of their defense, and perhaps of their offense. Was the defense on the field a lot due to an inept offense? Was the DL good, so eveyone passed against them or was their DL and LB's not that good, leaving the DB's to make all of the tackles.

TCU will be fired up but will not hold up to the Tigers.

Stats are for us and the game is for the players. I look for a whole new attitude and pace from LSU this year. Jan 9, 2012 was one of those games that takes a season and deep soul searching at every level to completely overcome. Last year's team just did not have that intangible the 2011 regular season had. I wanted it to be there but we were one step, one first down and one tackle late the whole year.

Look for a hungry fast paced and effeicent 2013 LSU Tiger Tackle Football Team. I apologize in advance that TCU will be the first to see that.

That's a bunch of work for an unnecessary thread. This is the only thing you need to look at:

2012 TCU Horned Frogs Football Schedule
Final Record: 7-6, 4-5 (Big 12)

I could have saved you a bunch of time.

Just for future reference. No big deal but, it should be passes defended not passes deflected.

Passes deflected is the same as pass broken up.

Passes defended = ints + PBUs.

I was going to start a thread asking what you guys thought about the game vs. TCU. I figured it would be easier to just add on to this.

I think the DB tackle numbers are a little bit misleading because a lot of our safeties play close to the line in the 4-2-5. Almost like linebackers.

I will give my shot at where the edges are.

QB: Draw - I say this because we are not sure which Casey Pachall will show up this year. If its the Casey of old then the Frogs have the edge. I have not been that impressed with Mett. However, if he comes out like he did vs. Bama then the Tigers will be in good shape.

DL: Frogs - This one is very close only because of LSU inexperience. I know the Tigers reload there. I do think you will be impressed with the Frogs DL.

LB: Tigers - I am not sure what LSU will do to replace Minter but I do know that yall usually put some athletes out there. TCU is pretty weak at the LB position right now.

DB: Frogs - I have a really tough time picking the Frogs here because LSU always puts great DBs on the field. Patterson has said how impressed he is with our secondary unit and that says a lot because the DBs are his unit. Also our entire secondary is returning from the #1 defense in a pass heavy Big 12.

OL: Tigers - I have heard yall have some good returning players and I know the Tigers are always strong in the trenches. The Frogs have some tough roles to fill in our interior OL. It is nice having both tackles returning after a year of experience.

RB: Tigers - The Frogs have a talented group coming in and last years stats don't show our talent at all. Our #1 running back (Waymon James) tore his ACL early in the year and will be ready to go in the fall. Also former 5 star RB Aaron Green transfered in from Nebraska and has looked very good in the spring. All that said, they are not a proven bunch like the Tigers are. That is a very talented stable of backs you have.

WR: Tigers - I think this is a closer margin than some tigers may think. It was tough to showcase our WRs because Boykin is not the passer that Pachall is. We did however lose our #1 receiver in Boyce to the draft. Anytime you do that you will take a step back. Look for JaJuan Story (former 5 star transfer from Florida) to try to take his place. ODB and Landry headline a great group for the Tigers.

TE: TIGERS - We never use our TE and it is annoying as sh*t.

FB: Tigers - Just wanted to add this because I love Copeland.

I am sorry for the long post but I felt that I could give yall a good insight on what we will bring to the game. I have been an LSU fan for a long time and consider them my second college team. I usually make it to at least one game a year in Tiger Stadium. Here is to hoping I don't have to witness the Tigers doing what you did to Oregon last time I was at Jerry World watching the Tigers.

Very misleading. They were cruising along at 4-0 until they lost their star QB and RB. From there, they went 3-6 with three close losses and another competitive loss to Big XII champ Kansas State. They only had two bad losses, one two days after losing their QB and the other the week after a gut-wrenching 3 overtime loss. They are getting the QB and RB back, and return all five starters from what was already the best secondary in the Big XII.

They will be a good team this year. We will have the advantage at the line on both sides of the ball and should be able to dominate with our running game and stop them on defense, so it shouldn't be a close game. But they are better than last year's record or their result against us will suggest.

TCU is scary deep at WR. The stats aren't that great because Boykin was not great. They are big and tall and fast and will be a lot better with Pachall throwing to them

WR Advantage: TCU

Also QB advantage TCU - Take a look at the stats from the full season a year prior.

TCU's major weakness is their OL and inexperience at RB behind Waymon James (who has virtually no stats b/c he only played 3 gamees last year).
