No doubt. Teams would routinely score 80-90 points a game back then. Look no further than Saturday night. You had a double OT in the 80's.

Other games SEC Network could show:

LSU-UNLV 1989
LSU Georgetown that same year I think played in the Dome

Already mentioned that LSU-Ole Miss game where CJ drops in 55.

CJ also had 53 at Florida. That's another one they could show.

Yep.

Since this pulled my chain, I poked around on Youtube and found this. I had not seen it before, but he dropped 55 on a team in high school. Comments say it was against Washington-Marion and was at an invitational played in Lake Charles. I almost feel bad for #12...CJ just keeps crossing him and drilling that three in his grill over and over..haha.

The Ole Miss game had CJ with either 55 or 53, and Gerald Glass from Ole Miss with 55 or 53 as well.

Yep...CJ dropped in 55 and Glass dropped in 53. Incredible. Think LSU lost by a point in OT.

at the begining of my time at LSU (the year that would have been shaq's senior year dammit), and for a few years after, if LSU scored 100, everyone got a free Big Mac

towards the end of the Brady era, the promtion became if we score 70, everyone gets a free gallon of windshield washer fluid at autozone!

Trivia time:

How did LMU players "high five" each other during introductions?

Eta: I didn't watch the broadcast to see if they showed intros so this may be common knowledge.

Just sad to know that Hank died about 2 months after this game. They even mentioned that he had cut back on his medication.

He actually died just 4 weeks later. I won't lie. I cried when I saw the news that day.

The only LSU basketball game that I watched in which I was emotionally drained and exhausted. My voice was gone. I watched this game in Houston in television. Half the dorm thought I had lost my mind.

the story i remember is his high school coach made everyone shoot free throws after practice and the entire team had to stay until everyone missed a shot.

he had to stop doing that after it routinely be 9pm or later before CJ would miss a shot.

Team was not quite deep enough. Mike Hansen had to sit out as did Shawn Griggs I believe. Also, Lenear Burns was not eligible. Not that those three were great by any means, but they would have added very good rest depth to the big men getting in foul trouble. The SEC play had the 6 foul rule that season and Shaq would still have three in the first half. After CJ, Mo, Vernel, Stanley, and Shaq...it was Wayne Simms, Randy Duvall, and then Richard Krejewsji. Geert was not even eligible that season.

Lack of depth hurt that team and forced Vernel and Wayne Simms to have to play "big me" on that team. Wayne Simms got absolutely abused by Larry Johnson. Simms would play the 3/4 very well in '89 and hit lots of jumpers. In '90, he was forced to play a lot of down low rules that he just was not good with.
