quote:
Florida Field became unplayable after hours of downpours. The season opener for both teams started after a nearly three-hour lightning delay — and then stopped after 10 seconds.
Game officials, athletic directors and the Southeastern Conference called the game and offered four possible outcomes:
The teams could resume the game at a later date. They could end the game with a determined final score. They could forfeit of the game. Or they could declare a "no contest."
Athletic directors from both schools, in consultation with the coaches, must agree on one of the four options. The agreement will include the final score if the game is terminated.

So did Betsy - nearly identical paths, right through Miami east to west and then straight to BR
K-bitch hit S FL first too before hitting NOLA.

Given how unpredictable the path of hurricanes can be, the damage hurricanes can do to infrastructure and utilities, the need for hotel housing and the stress they put on first responders, I just don't see how they can responsibly plan a game in Gainesville.
I get the part about them wanting to play in front of fans and not give up a key home game, I would feel the same way. It might well be models at 5 pm have the storm far enough east of Gainesville where they don't expect too much damage. But even if there is just a 20% chance of the storm impacting that part of Florida, you cannot take the risk.
If Florida decides to play at home, its still even money the game gets canceled. They may actually prefer the game get canceled rather than play in BR.
The weather will be fine Saturday in Gainesville. Will they have power? Will they be using police as security that need to be helping with storm issues? Will fans be taking up hotel rooms storm victims need?
If they keep the game scheduled and the storm veers west Thursday morning, they are going to look like idiots. If they cancel and the storm moves east, some Florida fans will be very upset. Most rational people understand you have to err on the side of safety and caution. Based on the cone of the models I have seen, they will have to move the game.
I wonder what power the SEC has in this situation. For anyone more concerned with safety than football, moving this game is a no brainer. Heck, South Carolina is evacuating today.
Disclaimer: I am an LSU fan who benefits if they move game. I completely understand Florida wanting to play at home. I think that is clouding their judgment. If the situation was reversed, I am sure my judgment would be clouded as well.

2:00 update has storm drifting way to the West. This game coming to TS. SEC would never chance the safety of team and fans when faced with something this big and dangerous. They have to consider flying into storm with team on Friday, shortage of gas, first responder shortage as well as safety of fans and students.
I live in Nashville and NFL already considering moving Titans @Dolphins game on Sunday to Nashville.

it was and Florida ended up paying Idaho $975,000, I know its a whole different situation with it being a conference game

Exactly... he said unlikely to BR but they have to move it somewhere. No way they play in Gainesville.

Seems to me they are afraid to make a decision which will give everyone else involved less time to adjust. I guess the most likely scenario is to push the game back.
First a decision was supposed to be made by noon, then 3 p.m., now 5 p.m. Any bets on 7 p.m.?

It won't be as much of a home field advantage as UF fans think. Probably 40-60,000. Probably afternoon game.
And of course, LSU will probably play their fight song at least once.

If they refuse to move the game and it has to be cancelled Alleva better not settle for anything less than a forfeit. And the SEC shouldn't either bc this sets a bad precedent.

decision has been made, theyre running through final logistics right now.
the 5pm announce time was indeed to get a better view of what the storm was doing, and it is drifting even further west.
